hagams 01-18-2008, 09:51 AM I know that I"m not very strong with stats, and cap talk and all that, but do you think we have anyone we could trade off for draft picks? Since the FO seems to have backed off the "lets build a team through Free agency", would it be possible to make some trades for picks, instead of us giving ours away?
freddyg12 01-18-2008, 10:14 AM Good question!!
Springs was mentioned in trade talks w/Denver last year, but I believe he only has 1 yr. left on his deal & at 7mil it isn't that enticing. I hope Springs is back here though.
Of course, last year we debated Betts' value, but I just don't see us getting enough in return for him. I'd also hate to see him go.
There's nobody I want to see traded other than Loyd, which would be a miracle if someone were to bite on. I'm sure there are a few guys we could value for, but I wonder if it would be enough to justify it.
I think the capologists are best to answer this one.

Moss? Come on...and I think we all see how important Springs is now, to get a similar calibar corner without drafting one will take a lot of money. McCardell, did he sign for more than a year? Collins is too old to have any value
freddyg12 01-18-2008, 10:34 AM McCardell & Collins are both free agents & over 35! Can't trade em if we wanted to.
Moss & Springs are possibilities. I don't want to see Moss go as I think he is still needed. We'd have to get a lot to give him up IMO. He's our only deep threat.

I thought I read recently that Springs likely will not be back with the team next year at all. I don't think we can part with anyone who would bring any value. McCardell is old as the hills and Collins is paid too well.
bertoskins2 01-18-2008, 10:38 AM we can hold for betts for now, we can look for a trade for griffin, washington, jansen, and sad to say thomas. these are the guys who has still has it but unfortunately they cannot stay healthy
I can say this is true for moss and portis but I believe that the guys I mention earlier can be replaced/rebuild thru our draft picks

Collins late season flare could bring some interest to a young team with a developing qb, and collins can take the reigns while the qb is learning. I'd be okay without springs if smoot and rogers can stay safe.

you can't just trade anybody...and none of those guys mentioned in the first half of this post would bring a decent pick..so what's the point, may as well just keep them. You do need SOME veterans.
