The Redskins have signed three free agents, that I find interesting. Fisrt Cedric Holt and Tommy Davis(From our practice Squad). They both came from North Carolina, and had inpressive pro day results. March 21, 2006
Representatives from all 32 NFL teams attended North Carolina's pro day (http://tarheelblue.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/032106aab.html), Twelve players participated, including safety Mahlon Carey, fullback Rikki Cook, defensive end Tommy Davis, cornerback Cedrick Holt, linebacker Jeff Longhany, wide receiver Derrele Mitchell, defensive tackle Chase Page, wide receiver Jarwarski Pollock, offensive lineman Kyle Ralph, linebacker Tommy Richardson, defensive back Linwood Williams and wide receiver Wallace Wright. Tommy Davis benched 225 pounds a team-high 34 times. Cedrick Holt and Jarwarski Pollock each ran the 40-yard dash under 4.4.
The other is, Kevin Huntley, he is 6-7 270 pounds and was thought be a good pass rusher coming out of college. In fact he started a six games his rookie years and had 2.5 sacks, in that time. Since then, he has been cut by the Raiders and the Falcons. Not the best teams, to be cutting talented linemen, but still I like the size of this guy.

I hope you guys like this post, better than the Cody Boyd thread.

If the raiders and falcons cut the guy, I dont see any potential with the guy.
But if he is cheap and become a diamond in the ruff....great.

maybe they'll find a home here, but i kinda doubt it.

We need to draft a DE in the first round. Either Gholston or Campbell.

I doubt it too, but Chris Wilson was signed last year in this little "round" so maybe one of the three sticks and contributes a little bit.

You never know, one of them could be the next Mix, make the team to play special teams. Would be highly unlikely for 1 of them to get playing time otherwise.

There are just too many success stories out there for players like these to say, with any authority, that they will be cut. While unlikely that any will make the HOF, their are lots of undrafted guys out there (say ~ 2 or 3 per team). Certainly, some of our recent ST standouts have been OFA's (Ade Jimoh anyone?). These early round signings always hold promise AND, IMO, the Skins do seem to have some good luck with these types of guys (see Chris Wilson).

Young, cheap and talented players are ALWAYS a good thing - if we sign 30 young, cheap guys and find one or two with enough talent to make the team, then it's well worth the effort.

Undrafted rookies & guys like Chris Wilson who had a few years in the cfl, are a much higher probability than these guys, who were cut by other teams if I'm correct. Not that they can't find their game here, but they've already been tested in the nfl.

I agree though, the Skins have done well, at least this past year, w/their undrafted finds.

Fair enough. If they've been kicked to the curb a few times, probably a reason for it. You never know, maybe it was a numbers crunch, a personality issue with the coach or they just got overwhelmed initially. But, I would agree that it would make sense that the success rate for these types of players is probably lower than undrafted college players.
