Redskins247 01-11-2008, 01:36 PM Great article...I think it says a lot coming from someone who isn't even with the team now...he didn't have to say all that, it doesn't benefit him at all. I remember Bowen having some solid performances for us when he was here.
FRPLG 01-11-2008, 02:15 PM It's safe to say that Bowen is a bit biased since he mainly dealt with GW instead of Gibbs, but he makes some good points regardless. And even though Bowen liked his tough guy approach, that doesn't always jive with every player.
I think it would work with this team though. We have professionals on this team. Even quirky guys like CP are serious about football. I think his leadership would translate well for this team. Really well. I am glad to see some analysis of GW from a player like that.
FRPLG 01-11-2008, 02:19 PM I have to say that ever since the Tom Friend artical Ive been very bias towards Williams.
This artical is the nicest thing Ive ever heard anyone say about him, and I might just be changing my tune towards GW. You have to respect a guy that is all about preperation and hard work to get a win. If players dont want to do everything it takes to play as good as they can each Sunday do we really want them here? Im a huge Lavar fan, but I guess that was part of the problem, he wanted to rely on his atheleticism and not the preperation and study that everyone else was doing. Kinda disrespectfull to all the other players.
Matty poinmted out that that was Arch just spewing sour grapes over being revealed as a fraud. That and a little inferring about things like the Lavar situation made it seem way worse. I think they made mistakes in handling issues but it seems to me the problems could lay right at Dale Lindsey's feet. They got rid of him and all of a sudden everyone thinks GW is the greatest ever in the locker room. Maybe GW just wanted his players to be pros and not get into pissing matches with coaches even when the coach is a dick. I guess he gave Dale the benefit of the doubt and eventually realized that Dale WAS the problem. Seems like that to me anyways.
scowan 01-11-2008, 02:29 PM Hey guys, I live in Tennessee Titan's country and on the local sports talk radio this morning they were talking about Jim Schwartz interviewing for the Skins HC job. That is being discussed in another thread, but when they finished that conversation, they said that Greg Williams, if he did not get the HC job in D.C would be high on several team's list to be a Defense Coordinator. These guys on the radio, of whom one was former Skins and Titans player Frank Wycheck, spoke of nothing but praise for Greg Williams.
I think Danny is kind of missing the boat if he does not hired Greg, who is overwhelmingly the "best coach available" for the Skins at this point. Danny may be thinking something long term with another coach and we all know he likes to make a big splash with players and coaches, but I think he needs to look at how other successful teams are doing it these days with continuity and a defensive minded coach. Recent offensive minded coaches have not worked out very well, while defensive coaches instill that toughness and work ethic that all teams need. "Danny.... think defense and hire Greg.... Please!

Yeah but we all know what CP thinks about practice. Do you think he would appreciate bootcamp Williams in August?
firstdown 01-11-2008, 03:30 PM Man if I have to read Snyder and big splash one more time in a post I'm going to puke.

If GW doesn't get the HC job here he would be out of a job for about 5 seconds. He's HIGHLY respected as a D coordinator.

Firstdown, I hear ya man, but I am just calling it like it is, Snyder loves to go all Hollywood and get the biggest name he can find. Why do you think he runs with Tom Cruise! Maybe he will interview a movie coach like Gene Hackman from the Replacements, or Pacino from Any Given Sunday. Nothing would surprise me.
81+83+84=Posse 01-11-2008, 04:01 PM What if Williams doesn't want the job? As Bram mentioned in his blog, Williams has said before that he enjoys being a coach in DC without having the responsibilities of a head coach. SO then who do you look at? It's rumored thatGrimm interviewed today.

SmootSmack 01-11-2008, 04:07 PM Yeah, the thought that Williams is perfectly happy being where he is is something I had broached a couple of days ago. But the more I think about it, the more I hear, and the more other members here convince me, you'd think he'd at least want one more shot to prove his worth as a head coach.
