Campbell17 01-10-2008, 12:04 AM I'm really proud of how the skins played out the season and handled all the adversity; whether injuries, sean taylor, having to win 4 in a row with TC, etc. I think that we have only a few holes to cover and we could be in a Super Bowl. Right now, I honestly think that we could beat any team in the NFC,at their stadium. We played every NFC play off team this year at least once. We played on the road of each team also!!! I think the NFC is open ground next year. Realisticly, we are maybe a year or 2 away with some luck. How far do you think we are from a trip to a super bowl?
SFREDSKIN 01-10-2008, 12:13 AM If we keep the team together (coaching and most players comeback) have a nice draft (DE,OL,CB,WR) sign a few FA. We could be in it next year as long as they build momentum from this year, it wouldn't surprise me.
saden1 01-10-2008, 12:40 AM Don't die, stay tuned.
Schneed10 01-10-2008, 09:30 AM I think we've got the makeup of a winner and we showed we can compete with every team in the NFC. But if we bring in an outsider to coach, all bets are off, and I think we'll suck next season. We've got a good thing going and need to keep the same system. We're basically stuck with the players we have (cap reasons), so a new coach is going to be limited in his ability to overhaul the roster to his liking. The only way we're close is if we hire G Williams, Al Saunders, or bring in a guy who'd keep Williams and Saunders.
irish 01-10-2008, 09:50 AM Not until this team gets a GM.
RiggoDrill 01-10-2008, 10:06 AM The team is at least a couple of years away from a SB appearance. Until the defense can apply consistent and effective pressure on opposing quarterbacks they do not have much of a chance (for reference, see game film of Trent Edwards carving up the secondary). In addition, better play from Campbell in clutch situations is a must for a SB caliber team.
I see no reason why this group, no matter who coaches it next year, cannot return to the playoffs, perhaps even have a good enough record to host a game!
Skins fan 44 01-10-2008, 10:08 AM Next Year!! Always safe to say.
stone 01-10-2008, 10:09 AM If GW gets the job... (which he will, i really can't see Gibbs letting "The Danny" hire outside the group) and Al S. stays on as OC I really think that Collins will win the position at QB and Al S. will run a pretty tight offense leaving GW to focus on the D therefore I believe playoffs in 2008-09…. maybe up to the NFC championship. 2009-10 Superbowl season. Usually I'm a "glass half empty" kinda guy but there's just something telling me that this is all going to shake out to be something exciting for quite a few years. "The Danny" got the taste of blood in his mouth now and is ready to "sit still" and wait for the kill rather than run around like a maniac trying to catch it in full stride.
The only reason I see Collins behind center next year instead of Campbell is the simple fact that Collins know the Al S. system and will groom Campbell to be the man for the future.
BDBohnzie 01-10-2008, 10:25 AM (This should be a poll...)
It now depends on whether the Skins hire from within (G-Dub) or outside the organization. If G-Dub becomes the head coach, it's feasible that the Skins are in the Super Bowl within the next 3 years. However, if an outsider is brought in, it's going to be longer.
But, it will all stem on how the personnel decisions are made...there is no doubt that the next coach is going to have some say in who comes and goes, however, not as much as Gibbs did. We pray that Snyder and Cerrato did learn a thing or 2 from Gibbs.
freddyg12 01-10-2008, 10:29 AM I agree w/all here who think that keeping this team & staff intact as much as possible is the key to success next year & beyond.
That said, we can get to the super bowl next year, but we'd likely be a 2 TD underdog against the best afc team. A year after that is too far away to predict in today's nfl IMO, especially for a team w/a lot of vets that may be on or close to their way out.
