Because he's joining us as a moderator! j/k

Seriously though, in a strange way I feel that Gibbs' resignation is a positive step for discussions on this board. The bulk of my time here has been during Gibbs II.

And one thing that I think really affected our discussions and evaluation of Joe Gibbs is that we all had different perspectives and memories of him. Someone like Mooby isn't old enough to remember seeing live Darryl Grant highstepping into the end zone after intercepting a batted Dexter Manley pass in an NFC Championship game in front of a rocking RFK, the way Skinsguy can. Skinsguy probably doesn't remember Gibbs making his presence felt in the NFL for the first time in the early 1970s crafting a high powered St. Louis Cardinals offense, the way Backrow does.

I don't know, I guess I'm just rambling here.

But my point is, now with a new head coach we should all have a clean slate with which to evaluate him. Even if it's someone like Williams or Cowher who has experience being an NFL head coach, none of us have any emotional attachment to them as such.

That make sense?

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

j/k

Growing up, I had an aquaintance who once stepped in and took a horrendous beating when I was getting jumped for running my mouth in high school. (I know - me, a smartass. It's a little far fetched.) Had this guy not jumped in, I'd likely not be the handsome devil typing today. I will, to this day, angrily defend his character.

Thing is, he's kind of a jackass.

I'm poigniantly aware of his flaws, but they do not outweigh the good he did for me.

There really isn't a Gibbs parallel for me here. However, maybe others will learn from my parable and spread my good word (lower-case "w").

It makes sense to me SmootSmack. Whoever the next coach is, I believe we all should rally around him and support him as much as possible. I just hope the new coach will maintain continuity within the organization.

I don't think I'll ever have as strong an emotional attachment to any other coach besides Joe. All that I ask is that if I ever go off the deep end and become as obsessed with Joe as Clutch is with George Allen, then you'll strip me of my VIP status and bid me a fond farewell.

No... I hear what your saying. There's no more emotional cop-outs. We actually have a consistent fan base all seeing the same thing, and we'll be able to dissect it better.

The Lord God is not longer our coach... so it won't be blasphemy anymore to critique him. It's definitly going to be a lot more fun...

Same with me Lady Brave. I grew up watching the Redskins play every Sunday, and seeing Joe Gibbs pacing the sidelines every Sunday as well. During our glory years, he was always the one constant.

Insightful post and I agree w/ ya'll.

And I'm 100% for supporting our Skins going forward... coach left em in a good situation IMO. I'm saying prayers every few minutes that Danny boy doesn't do something really stupid in the weeks ahead!

I agree--some of us knew him as the greatest coach of alltime and expected great things again and btw, immediately. We found ourselves getting frustrated along with the folks who did not know Gibbs 1.0 as well. Gibbs' departure I think will remove some of the partisanship we have on this site when evaluating the head coach.

What a moronic thing to say. Scratch that. Moronic is a major understatement. Flat out brain dead stupidity....I could go on for hours.

I think too many people around here defend him no matter how bad he messes up. It's good for The Warpath. But I'm very sad to see him go. He's such a high quality human being.
