There's no harm in giving Gregg Williams a one year free trial. It really would be a free trial because if his team performs unsatisfactorily, you could cut ties with him and his staff after one season, and end up right back where we are right now. No big continuity issues necessary.

If however, they go out of house to hire, they better as hell hit on it, as there's no looking back after that.

Right, and if he bombs Bill Cowher will be available next year. If Snyder wants to go that way of course.

It's not likely, but anyone considering that the possibility that maybe Williams doesn't want it? That he's seen life as a head coach and would rather be the 2nd in command? That he's turned down interviews in the past not so much because he wanted to stay a Redskin, but because he prefers the relative nuts and bolts of being the COO of one unit, rather than the CEO of many.

Look, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it if he wants it. All I'm saying is maybe he's not as interested in it as we all would like to believe.

Just saying, some people are better suited to be Scottie Pippen than Michael Jordan.

From someone who knows what ego is all about ;) I'd say it's pretty doubtful that he would turn it down. GW is a pretty driven guy, I think he would be eager to prove that his stint in Buffalo was a fluke.

It will be a mistake if Williams is not the coach.

Keep Greg I'd hate to see him go somewhere else and shine, remeber Belichek had head coaching stints then was an assistant then the head coach of New England I see Greg as that type of coach...

I wondered this exact same thing! He has always seemed to shy away from the media since he's been here...but I'm sure if it was offered to him, he'd take take it, seeing the relationships he's built with these players here. What matters most though is how he and Dan get along...and I haven't heard too many heart-felt stories there.

I don't agree that he's shyed from the media, actually he seems to do plenty of interviews.

But your last point is a good one. Gibbs alluded to that too the other day, he said the owner has to be "comfortable" with the coach. That's one of the main reasons I wonder if he'll even really consider Grilliams.

The lack of statements from Snyder about how he and GW are "on the same page", "understand each other", etc. In fact, the almost complete non-discussion of GW's qualifications is the only thing that causes me pause in asserting that GW will be the next coach.

With that said, I think GW is the next coach.

But I ain't betting the house on it - Maybe dinner at McD's.

Snyder and Williams aren't exactly bunk buddies, but they've apparently grown to a mutual respect of each other. But that was precipitated primarily by Gibbs. Without Gibbs as a daily buffer (sigh...I miss him already), it will be interesting to see how the relationship plays out.

Still, all indications are he's in the lead. But...there could be a surprise in the works. Someone you'd never expect.
