SmootSmack 01-09-2008, 12:44 AM If Blache stays he should get bumped up to Assoc. Head Coach-Defense, then sure give Jerry Gray the D Coordinator job.
Danny Smith could get some consideration for defensive coordinator as well. I know GW really likes him
LongTimeSkinsFan 01-09-2008, 12:49 AM My hopes go with GW being named as the successor. While there are several qualified HCs out there without jobs, my concern would be someone outside the organization wanting to bring in their own team of coaches. I think it's extremely important to this team to maintain the philosophies of offense and defense that have been established over the last two years and build a sense of continuity and stability within the organization.
WillH 01-09-2008, 01:37 AM I just read on extremeskins that GW did not have that clause in his contract promising 1 mil if he did not succeed Gibbs. Is that true? If so, how did this rumor start?
SBXVII 01-09-2008, 02:37 AM It's rumored to be a rumor about the 1 MIll rumor. lol. Funny how when it first came out everone talked about it as if it was solid info. Also at the time when asked I don't remember GW saying it was not true. He was his typical self...laugh and change the topic. When something is not true he is pretty quick to shut it down. I wonder if there was a time limit on the 1 Mill and we are past that or were there stipulations that were not met in order for him to receive the 1 Mill.
Another thing I thought about all day was how it seemed just a couple of months ago that rumor was Snyder had met with Cowher and had an agreement already in place at the end of the season. However I was told that Snyder answered a reporter who asked that question saying He has not met with Cowher since six yrs ago when they played handball or racket ball together.
Swarley 01-09-2008, 03:30 AM the question now is, does Snyder remain the patient owner he's been when Gibbs was around, or revert to his old ways of trying to buy a championship?
personally, I feel Snyder has changed for the better since Gibbs has been here and will remain that way.
dcweldon 01-09-2008, 06:15 AM The last thing this team needs to go through, especially after the loss of a teammate, is an overhaul of the coaching staff.
LaVar said it best in his 5th season with the redskins, "In five years, I've had five defensive coordinators, all preaching different schemes." If we bring in anyone else, other than someone who is already in the system, how do we expect to get back to the playoffs?
Here is my thought, Daniel Snyder brought Joe Gibbs back to help rebuild the Washington Redskins (not win a Super Bowl), and Joe did that. We went to 2 playoff appearances in four years under Coach Gibbs. We brought a higher level of playing back to Washington, great personnel has been brought into Redskins park. I think that Joe Gibb's job doesn't end here, but it continues with Daniel Snyder, throughout the search for the next head coach. Whether or not Joe Gibbs stays on in some capacity as an adviser or some other position, shouldn't be the concern of the team.
Took keep the solid outlook of our team, going outside of our current staff, would be unwise. This coaching staff does not need a change or a fresh face to come in and lead this team.
If for some reason the Redskins do get a head coach from the outside, let's all pray that the new head coach and Greg Williams can work something out so that Greg will stay. (similar to the Pittsburgh Steeler's head coach Mike Tomlin and Dick Lebeau)
Let's not kid ourselves, if Greg Williams is not promoted to Head Coach, he will leave, and the continued unprofessional-ism that our owner presents himself amongst the coaching elite (the NFL as a coaching whole) will only further drive this franchise into a deeper whole in years to come.
Luxorreb 01-09-2008, 06:43 AM I hope we keep it in house...
Head Coach Gregg Williams.
I'm afraid that Snyder will try to get some yahoo from elsewhere...
Please Joe tell him Gregg!!!

You really think a owner hired a guy for 5 years just to come in and rebuild a team and not to try and win a SB? If that is true then its a big insult to Gibbs.

Yeah that just doesn't make much sense.
He came back for several reasons, all which are related. He came back to win... and the ultimate goal of winning is of course the Super Bowl, bring stability back to the franchise, and to leave them better off than when he got here.

I'm all for giving Greg a shot I guess, but he's a career 17-31 head coach, and never had a +.500 team. Just because he was a head coach for 3 years doesn't make him the best choice. (fyi- Saunders is a career 17-22 head coach)
