SFREDSKIN 01-08-2008, 02:06 PM Stop being a douche, sfredskins. Sandtrapjack has been a member of this board longer than you and has been a great poster. Part of what makes this site great is we have regular posters from other persuasions. They add some balance in with the homerism to help give us the full perspective.
Hey diesel, I won't be childish like you and start with name calling. I'm just expressing my opinion I never insulted Sandtrapjack, if anything I even said his Cowboys would win the SB in another post. What happened to the good old ribbing? I said Billick is an Imbecile, not him. Chill out!!
jsarno 01-08-2008, 02:06 PM I've been sitting here thinking and thinking of who's next, and I just don't know. There is good and bad with every scenario. I just don't want to tear up this team after we started to get it right finally.
freddyg12 01-08-2008, 02:07 PM Please not Cowher, or for that matter, any other "big name" coach.
Cowher is retired for a reason, he wants a break. Sure he could be lured by big $, but it that the type of motivation we want? that's been the problem w/players & coaches here, they come for the $. Joe was an exception, he wanted the challenge.
Cowher has already won a super bowl. We need a guy that has something to prove & wants to build a team & reputation. Some of the pieces are in place, so hire GW.
Although it's eerily similar to Pettibon's hiring in 93, GW has been a head coach before and now he's matured under Gibbs. Hire GW w/the condition that Al remain as OC, just as Jones did w/Garrett in dallas.
Redskins247 01-08-2008, 02:09 PM I picked Williams...but mainly because I don't want to see everything we have now torn down. I certainly wouldn't hate the hire of Cowher, but Jsarno makes a good point about his offense being conservative...and wasn't that what everyone has been screaming about here for the last 4 years???? I think if Williams is hired and Saunders stays, I think everything stays very positive going into next season...especially from the point of view of the players!!!

Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

I thought about the Pettibon/Williams comparison when I first heard about Gibbs' retirement. But, if Williams becomes the head coach, he will be walking into a very different situation. This team has a lot of talent and much of it is young. This team also may have a franchise QB. Pettibon inherited an aging team without a young, franchise QB at the helm.
heybigstar 01-08-2008, 02:11 PM What makes you guys think that GW can lead the complete team? The table is set to get in a proven coach-Cowher. Dont get me wrong, Williams has done wonders on the defense but look at Buffalo-he didnt seem to have it all. GW has had some questionable free agent pick ups too. lets not forget arch deluxe.
Snyder went after Arch Deluxe, GW wanted to keep Ryan Clark and he alluded to it last year.
irish 01-08-2008, 02:12 PM They are saying on Sports Talk 980 that sources close to Vinny C say that it will be Cowher and he will be head coach and GM.

Weren't they just citing Maske's blog?
Slingin Sammy 33 01-08-2008, 02:13 PM I've come around on Williams. I wanted him out at the end of the season after seeing almost 2 seasons of that Cover 2 getting picked apart, particularly in the 2nd half of games this year. However, from the Bears game on Williams is back to his old aggressive style and thrown out the Cover 2. Reading some of the info that the players on O & D want him to get the HC job shows that he has learned from Gibbs and is toning down the ego. I think with keeping our roster, coaching staff and O & D systems consistent, if we stay healthy next year we are in a good position.
If we keep GW as HC, our first immediate priority MUST be to get a GM. Cerrato will not get it done.
No way to Cowher. Let him do his return tour somewhere else.
If we don't hire GW as HC, we need to get the GM first and then go after Ron Rivera as HC.
