my 2 cents:

a little disappointed but i think it was time....

i hope gregg will take over

i hope al stays to run the offense (although i don't think both these things happening is realistic)

i hope kirk olividotti (linebacker coach) will at least be considered to take over the defense

i hope campbell is still the man!

From the Skins site:

"Gibbs will remain part of the Redskins family and serve as a special advisor to owner Daniel M. Snyder."

That, at least, is good news. I think this probably means he will help find his own replacements and, hopefully, be Danny Boy's "football conscience".

I remember the euphoria from 4 years ago when Gibbs announced his return. This is just as unexpected but, unfortunately, I feel the opposite of euphoria.

God help us all.

Redskins coach Gibbs resigning today (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7648730)

According to that, Gibbs will stay on as a "special adviser" to Snyder. Whatever that means.

There will also be a news conference at 3:00PM.That means he'll sit in Snyder's suite once or twice a year and explain some of the finer details of coaching throughout the game. So, basically, nothing.

I suppose it could be a good thing, depending on how it works out. What Snyder probably needed all along was an experienced, mature adviser to tell him when he's goofing up.

I guess we'll see how much water it really holds.

What a hellish season for these guys. I mean really, what other turmoil could they possible be forced to go through?

Maybe we should just line all 53 of the guys up and give them a swift kick in the nuts to really round out the season's torture.

Personally, I'm happy about it. I want a younger ambitious coach. Gibbs helped stabilize the franchise a bit, but didn't build too much for the future. We can finally get back to normal discussion here and have people say their feelings.

Just recieved a phone call from a friend he said he heard speculation that we were interested in Pete Carroll, I believe he said he heard it on Mike and Mike, not positive on that though.

Time for that clause in GW's contract; he gets $1 mil if Snyder hires anyone else.

While Joe leaving disappoints me, a part of me is happy for him & the org. that he went out on a high note. We're all looking forward to 08, but I can't help but think JLC knew what he was talking about when he said that the D might be in more trouble next year after the loss of ST, Rogers & Rocky (though now the word is he'll be back for the opener), and that the end of this year they were playing on emotion. In some ways I could see 08 as a tough year, and I would hate for Joe to go through that. He has to be drained after this season, so let him walk away on his terms.

He's made the organization respectable again & laid the foundation for future succes. Hire GW & keep Al & we should be in good shape.

Yeah Hogtimus, it was M&M speculating. I HATE that move.

Freddy: this is interesting -- Mort said there is no such clause in GWill's contract.
