Gibbs to Resign as HC/President

Laugh all you want about Cameron but that guy will be a winner. On another subject I wouldn't be surprised if Bugel also steps down. How do Gregg Williams and Al Saunders get along? Wasn't there some kind of distance between the O and D? How about ego's, if Williams gets the job who's to say Saunders won't step down cause he didn't get it?

Don't you think that past success is indicative of future success? I'd say you'd have to have more faith in them than in someone who has NOT gotten it done at the highest level. We're not talking about guys who had a good year or two. They've demonstrated consistent skill at managing a NFL team.

Gibbs leaving brings up a bigger issue, our three headed personnel chief is down one head. Who is going to interview the new coach? Cerrato and Snyder? Do they replace Joe with a team president?

John Riggins called this way early on his radio show, can't wait to hear his thoughts on this.

I am extremely upset about this. Don't say repeatedly you intend on fulfilling your contract and then walk away after the toughest and most gut wrenching season the Redskins organization has ever endured. It's not right. Unless Joe has a very good reason for not sticking around, I'm afraid my level of respect for him might be slightly diminished and I hate that feeling.

God, I am so pissed off right now and I just can't sit here and be all, "Well, good luck Joe, thanks for the memories." I realize I sound like a complete drama queen right now, but I don't care. I hope I feel differently after I hear him speak.

Lady, we usually have the same take on events at Redskins Park. We differ on this one. Perhaps I am wrong, but I really believe that Gibbs wanted to finish out his contract. But, he has always said that family comes first and perhaps his family told him, "No more, coaching is affecting your health and our grandson is extremely sick....it's time to spend time with your family." Obviously I am just speculating, but Gibbs made this decision after conferring with his family and I can't come up with any other explanation for it all.

Maybe we do, but we better get someone in here with an idea of how to run a football team and a specific plan on how to run ours. Let that guy run the team. Mr. Snyder has already shown that he's not the most patient person when it comes to dealing with coaches.

I think Joe Gibbs was the only COACH that was going to put air brakes on the Danny Boy Free Agent Jet Express. We need a strong GM with a big time reputation to keep Snyder somewhat in check, IMO. If he starts his immitation Jerry Jones routine (a poor one) again, we are screwed. Combination Coach/GM has not been a superbowl formula the last few years, unless I'm mistaken. Pats-GM, Colts-GM, Steelers-GM, Patriots-GM, Patriots-GM, Tampa Bay-GM, Baltimore Ravens-GM. That's the last 7 superbowl champs, all employing a GM. I think that makes a pretty strong argument.

I thought his grandson was doing much better? Everything I saw said his leukemia was in the remission stage and the treatments are much easier than last year. And was Gibbs' health suffering? I mean I know he has diabetes, but he's dealt with that for years...

You want him to announce his plans at the beginning of the season or during the stretch run? No one wants to be lame duck coach...Plus he has always maintained that he'll reevaluate his role at the end of the season. There is no valid reason to be angry with his decision.

Angry isn't the word I'd use. I'm just upset. Honestly, I don't know what to feel. I just hope everyone will let me vent a little bit. I'm usually pretty quiet on this board and I don't make much of a commotion. So it would be really nice if I could just say what I feel this once without fear of everyone tearing me down.

I'm disappointed that he wont be back for his final year but not at all suprised. I think the stress of this season just took much out of him. He probably had alot of time to reflect on the whole ST situation and wanted to spend more time with his family. Despite the ups and downs I believe the team is better and has more stability than before he came back. This being said I believe that Gregg Williams should be the successor. If you bring in another coach I believe it would be a total overhaul in the coaching staff and the team would suffer. I am heartbroken but I will always appreciate what Gibbs has done for this franchise both the first and second tenures. Keep your heads up fans.

With regard to the former, I know he's doing better but I didn't realize he was in remission. With regard to the latter, I don't know of any specific ailments, but I know of 2 jobs that tend to dramatically age people - (1) President of the United States and (2) Head Coach of any pro football team.
