cpayne5 08-11-2004, 09:53 AM I think Iffy is #3 because of who else is on the team. Mainly, Bowen and Taylor. Bowen is a better SS than Iffy and Taylor is a better FS. Last year, Iffy got on the field only because of the staff pushing Bowen into the FS role. This year, with the addition of Taylor, Bowen is going to be allowed to play his natural postion of SS.
Redskins_P 08-11-2004, 10:09 AM I think the problem with Iffy is that he doesn't fit in well w/ our defensive scheme. He's too damn SLOW.
I don't know about you guys, but did any of you see N.Clemons (D-lineman)? He put some pressure on the QB and I think he even got a sack!? As far as Betts goes....if this kid can't stay healthy then I think we should just trade him. McCullough, and Simon ran the ball ok. I've always been a fan of Sultan. I am also very dissapointed with Cartwright.......first he can gain a yard then once he breaks for a gain he fumbles.
memphisskin 08-11-2004, 10:59 AM We're going to need Betts in short yardage situations, Rock Cartwright is just too short & small to be consistently counted on in those situations. A lot of people didn't play this week, should we just dump those guys too? How about we wait a second before we go cutting former 2nd round picks?
I think Lott is first team because they are going to cut him or trade him. Think about it, Iffy was a starter last year and just signed a contract extension. And you always showcase guys you want to trade in the preseason. Taylor is clearly the goods, he's big, fast, and seemingly everywhere. I mean aren't free safeties normally on the right side of the formation? Then how did he get to the left side to make that pick he scored on? But I don't think it looks good for Lott, I think the coaching staff does like the guy but I'm not sure he's going to make the team unless he starts to make some plays.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 08-11-2004, 11:25 AM I don’t care where Andre Lott is on the depth chart right now. Basically, from what I understand, Lott is playing with the first team because he is far speedier than Ohalete. Ohalete can’t bring the blitz whereas Lott can. In my mind, until proven otherwise by solid play on Lott’s part, Ohalete is far superior to Lott as a free safety. Maybe Lott fits better in Williams’ system because we have no pass rush and need LBs and safeties to bring some heat, but that doesn’t make him the better player.
Simply because Stephen Davis was not involved in a lot of plays 2 years ago did not mean he was impotent, just that he didn’t fit Spurrier’s system.

If your looking at the defense from QB's perspective the FS is on the left side playing a little deeper than the SS on the right. I never said that we should "cut" Betts. I just think that if he can't stay healthy than why keep him? I don't think the redskins would cut him before seeking a trade. But then again that's just my opinion.
Dave Butz Baby! 08-11-2004, 11:50 AM Well it's official, Skinsfan and I are about to launch the Khary Campbell Fan Club, KFC for short

As far as Iffy goes, I think he is most likely one of players that Greg Blanche said had not bought into the system yet. From the Post, Sunday 8 August...
"You could see the lights come on, but not all at once," defensive coordinator Greg Blache said. "Guy by guy, you could see one guy bought in, then another bought in, and then finally you could see the ball start to roll. But right now, I can't tell you that everybody has bought in 100 percent.
"No, we still have a couple of guys who don't really believe, but they'll find out when we get into it that this isn't lip service. There will be a couple of guys who are shocked when we open up against Tampa and they're not in the lineup because they don't know what to do, or they're not in the lineup because they don't fight as hard as we want them to fight every instant of the way, and then I think if they're still here they'll figure it out."
