Gibbs doesn't exactly sound like he's endorsing Campbell as the starter for the start of the 2008 season:

Wasn't there another thread like this one? Maybe I'm mistaken.

Could be. I did a search but didn't see anything concrete...

I dont think there is. The other thread is about how the players feel and this one is about Gibbs. So I guess they're legitimately different. :D

Anyway. I hope Gibbs endorses JC. For some reason I don't wanna see TC as the starter next year.

It's sort of discussed in the Gibbs Presser thread. I don't think this is a big deal really. I think

1. He just wants to show TC some love because he's a free agent and he wants to stay
2. Everyone inside the organization has told Campbell it's his team but Gibbs has probably learned his lesson about any public proclamations since RamseyGate 2004
3. A little competition never hurt anyone anyway

I really hope your right SS because I think this could be really harmful to JC. Not giving your "starting" quarterback a vote of confidence heading into the offseason can be damaging to him. I kinda wish Gibbs will just say Campbell will be preparing like he will be the regular starter in '08. Then again maybe Gibbs doesn't want to say anything because he's unsure whether or not he'll be back.

I don't think TC has any shot in hell in taking the starting job from JC. Todd, even though he put in a great effort to end the season is not someone we want to rebuild for. With the way the defense's around the leauge are keying in on speed the past couple of years, his mobility really comes into question. Also, he doesn't have a gun to get the ball to our speed receiver. Good effort, but I think it's way to late for him.
I also agree that not giving Jason the nod prior to the off-season is going make him a little less positive about it.
And don't sign Todd back for a big QB pay-check. He's here to teach, and be the back-up.

Wow - it's like offiss part deux. Wasn't this what we said about Ramsey a couple years ago?

Look. I like JC, I think JC is the future. With that said, the boy better be able to take a little competition. That's the way the NFL rolls - unless your name is Farve, Manning or Brady, someone is always trying to take your job. So put your big boy pants on JC and show'em why your the number 1 guy in town.

JC has progressed and if he continues to do so, no worries - ain't no way TC takes the job from an improved Campbell. BUT, if he pulls a Ramsey and just doesn't get any better, then TC steps in until the next "QB of the future" rolls into town.

Campbell has shown some great flashes (just like Ramsey did). He has also thrown some big interceptions (just like Ramsey did). Next year is Campbell's "year of no excuses" year. I fully expect him to rise to the occasion. If he doesn't, well, then we better have a fall back plan and TC showed that he is it.

Gibbs was basically all over Todd Collins jock. I mean give it a break already. I don't have a problem with a QB competion. I think Collins has earned that right. But he's going to be 37 next year, he has a weak arm and no mobility. It's a nice story and he should be back next year, but as a back-up.

I think it is the right move to leave the door open...and let me tell you why. Gibbs has learned his lesson with the way he has treated his beloved players......i.e Brunell, and in today NFL you can’t baby your players and give them everything for free. These guys are grown men and if they want something they need to work hard to get it. I see your point about boosting a young QB's head going into the off-season, but what about a little healthy competition??? If we are to improve hear in Redskins Nation we need to put EVERY player to the test, nothing is free and must be earned, in camp, in practice and on the field. The attitude most change! I think Gibbs is a great coach, but coaching today is much tougher then it was 15 years ago, because the players are much different and there is just so much more at stake in contracts, etc.

With all that said, Jason is our quarterback, and he will win the competition in camp with more size, speed and youthfulness. But, let’s make him work hard and earn it before we just give it away.
