personally -- I think we take the best stud DE or WR available in the first -- then toss everything we have into the offensive line and defensive line (to a lesser extent). I'd also be okay with a safety at that spot. I guess what I'm saying: 1st overall pick take the best player on the board nearly regardless of position (minus RB or something), and then build the lines.

I agree. I started a bowl game thread the very day that Texas was playing its game mainly because of Sweed. He has a wrist injury, but he had a good jr. year. He's been on scouts, inc. big board for months.

I like this guy, size & avg. speed I believe - 4.55. On the flip side, I think the word on him is he's shown mainly potential rather than production at texas.

I live in Austin and have seen Sweed play the past couple of years. He can play and play well under the right circumstances. He broke his wrist early this year and decided to have surgery to clear up the problem so he would be ready for the combines.

I think he goes 2nd or 3rd round and if we are lucky enough to get him he would fit in nicely under the current offensive scheme. Good team player, good character guy and he can catch the ball!

4.55 is really slow :/ i don't really see anything from the games i watched to come close to wanting to throw a first round pick at him.

Mel Kiper ranks him really high though, putting him at number 14 so it seems like it would be hard for us to get him unless things change in the near future.

I saw on a draft projection on the internet as our 2nd round selection...I can live with that!!!

I guess he's ranked higher then i thought. Do we take a wr with our 1st rounder, probably not.
How about we have the Lions help us make our pick.

a big physical reciever and he is not on the slow side he is not Santana Moss but he is not Larry Fitzgerald either

um... sweed is not very good. slow, and his hands are horrible... more of a concentration issue i would imagine

Jerry Rice ran a 4.7.

He's the greatest receiver in the history of the game. Just saying...

Anytime someone mentions taking a WR in the 1st round I crinch...Mike Williams, Charles Rogers, my mind is drawing a blank but its about 50/50 to get a decent one.

I don't know anything about Sweed but i do think we need a playmaker at the WR position. We do still have Brandon Lloyd though.
