Why haven't we learned how to stop that play?

Also, was it just me or did Ramsey look like he was still taking play calls from Spurrier? I expected him to do much better. I almost had a myocardial infarction when I saw him audible.

Anyone know of any good football message boards that deal with Xs and Os that might help answer my first question?

Taylor did a good job of reading it yesterday. Maybe we need to start Taylor ASAP.....

i'll say it one more time, its because we're BLITZING EVERY DOWN. by commiting an LB to the blitz, we're leaving a flat completely open. they took advantage of that all night. our LBs must have been telegraphing which side and not done any disguising (preseason?).

its been my biggest worry about the defense, without the DLine applying pressure on its own, or at the very least soaking up blocks for the blitzing LBs, we're completely leaving the middle open to one backer.

hopefully during the season, we'll mix up the blitzes better so they dont know which side to rollout/throw across to. but ideally, our Dline would do its job and apply pressure by itself..

cant be relying on Taylor to save our ass every time our LBs dont get there in time.

I'd say because it's just a helluva play. They do a brilliant job of setting it up and executing it. But we did pick it off twice, so I'd say that we did a pretty good job against it.

I think we'll be fine. We won't have to blitz every down because our d-line actually started off collapsing the pocket on their own. I loved the way our 1st team defense looked early. Add to that the defensive touchdown by Taylor and our d giving up only 9 points through much of the game despite our offensive ineptitude and I'd say it was a pretty good outing.

2 things:

1. It was executed well to the point of the PA and bootleg. There was once that they faked out even the camera man for the entire play.

2. You can't win a championship on bootlegs. While they executed that play, we kept them out of the endzone until late in the 4th and we picked them off 3 times. I think you'll see alot of turnovers caused this season. Remember not every QB can do that, Plummer is a special case and a master of being able to move. What happens when it's Testeverde or Warner?

And in the 1st two series we were able to collapse the pocket in about 5 seconds with the front 4. That's still too long, but it's good to see that we aren't getting bullied and pancaked for 10 seconds while the QB makes a sandwhich back there. Add a blitz and any non-mobile QB better be ready to get hit.

I totally agree..!! If we can not stop it, then we better learn how to run it better. However, Coach Gibbs wrote the book on that play, so I'm sure he will figure it out.

Despite what we did see going wrong in the game, it was good to see the return to the running game, especially the "counter" plays. Used alot of them. Gibbs wants to win these preseason games, but, of course, not show anything up his sleeve.

It was not a good outing for Ramsey. It did indeed look like
he was still getting calls from Spurrier. I thought the same thing.

this is a very plain D and O designed to test the players, not the playbook... maybe its on purpose? maybe that thought is too optimistic, but hey ;)

Taylor will start but he will all so get burned a few times. I bet he burns other teams much more when it is all said and done this season. If you look at what He should beable to do on a Football field and what Champ can do we will forget Champ B very soon! :headbange There are very few Saftey that can stay on the field and match up against a WR! He looks to beable to do so! Also I can't wait till he puts on a bog hit on the WR and TE ! :food-smil Should be fun!!!
