jdlea 08-10-2004, 05:46 PM :stop: While a lot of you bash Ramsey's outting he was a lot more on target than Brunell. He looked absolutely horrid. I couldn't believe my eyes. Anything over 8 yards and Brunell was way off the mark. Ramsey didn't play well either, but I think he had the better night.
NM Redskin 08-11-2004, 06:11 AM As far as Ramsey and Brunell, look at want GIbbs said in his post game comments. . Quote: "In the first half, we couldn't get anything going offensively. We really struggled. It was a hard first half. And that's my fault. I'm the guy who's got to make it go here, so I kind of took that to heart."
There is a lot of things that have to go right for the offense to be succesful. Nothing new that QB takes the heat first, but sometimes it's not the QB fault. Everybody with a new system, heck they looked good!
Daseal 08-11-2004, 08:54 AM NM Redskin - It's Gibbs fault that our two starting callibre QBs can't hit wide open receivers and miss by quite a bit. I understand if the receiver runs the wrong route, but I doubt that they did that all night.
Brunell and Ramsey both looked horrible. I hope they sharpen up come Saturday!
JWsleep 08-11-2004, 03:22 PM Actually, getting burned on that play early in the pre-season is a blessing. Now we can prepare for it.
Remember, though, this was basically a scrimage for the skins, and they certainly did minimal scouting. Further, they were not opening up even a little of the serious playbook yet, so you can't take much from this. Also, I thought that Denver ran many more "regular season" type things, which made us look worse, at this stage. Finally, Denver is a vet playoff team, and we are a 5-11 team with a new coaching staff and lots of new players. And we still picked them off a bunch of times, once for a TD.
Williams is the real deal at D-coordinator, and he's got on of the best staffs in the league. Don't get too worried yet! Also, remember that play late in the first half where Williams brought the dealyed blitz to knock Denver out of field-goal range? That was a great call, and one of the few times he turned on the jets there. Good stuff.

Good point JW. I thought the defense looked pretty decent for the first scrimmage. They attacked alot more and tackled alot better. Like I said before our defense will improve and it's going to surprise a lot of people....mark my words.
That Guy 08-11-2004, 07:11 PM denver has been running the same basic offense for many years WITHOUT the massive turnover in players and staff that's become normal here, so they didnt have as many players with question marks (except maybe RB), and even their 3rd string probably had more time to learn and practice their playbook (if they were on the team last year).

I don't know about you, but I recorded the game and watched it more than once. Brunell and Ramsey had one over throw each. Denver played good D against Brunell, with tight coverage and both Ramsey and Brunell didn't get much help from the running game. Also both were pinned deep a couple of times.
