I'm getting that old feeling...

Back in the 80's when the Redskins were winning Super Bowls, I used to have a feeling about the team. This underlying belief and faith that the team would come to play and to beat the Redskins and Joe Gibbs, the opposition would have to bring their A game.
As this season has progressed, I have begun to sense a shift. For all of you too young to remember the first Gibbs tenure, this feeling about the Redskins that we all have now, was a constant, undeniable confidence. I am starting to see that indescribable, mysterious "energy" coming from Gibbs. He is focused, intense and has an enormous will to win and the team is feeding off of it. I did not sense this about the Redskins of '05. I think that team was surprised to be there in the playoffs and didn't really have the moxy to go all the way.
Will the Redskins win this weekend? I don't know. We'll see how it shakes out. All I know is that "feeling" is back. #21 is definitely still impacting the team and provides an intangible that can only help the Redskins of '07 go beyond all expectations.
I hope there are some members here that know what I'm talking about. That...feeling.
Peace out/West Side

I wasn't born until 1990, so I missed just about everythings, but you are absolutley right, there is a definite vibe about the skins this year that there wasn't in 2005. I have a feeling we're gonna do REAL BIG THINGS.

I'm not as confident as I used to be as a kid. This team just isn’t as good as are teams were in 82’91’. But I agree I think we can and should beat the Seahawks and make some noise in the playoffs. The Cowboys will be the real test. But right now all I care about is Seattle.

I ain't old nuff to remember the heyday of Redskin football in the '80s, but I can tell you this: lately, I've been feeling that eerily similar confidence about this current carnation. Mostly, it's due to that veteran command at the QB post and the resurgence of both the ground and air attacks. When you mix all these ingredients in the playoff blender for our burgundy and gold, it ought to strike up fond memories of championship runs.

i,m well aware of joe gibbs,s first tenure here and from what i,ve seen and felt these past 4 weeks is that joe gibbs teams that were consistently superbowl contenders.to add to what this team has gone thru this year with sean joe gibbs molded this team together that much more and has everybody sacrificing themselves for the team.like you it remains to be seen just how far they can go starting with seattle saturday. this team in comparison to 05 is very similiar but the players that have been with joe now for 4 years now understand him and he talked about that during his 12/31 presser.the jury is still out there but i,m hoping joe gibbs continues to build stability and continuity with this team and organization and the team continues to come together for seasons to come with additional playmakers that want to be redskins. i have faith ...

i,m with ya but i,m taking it one game at a time starting with the seahawks..

I was a young'n when Gibbs was tearing up the league in his first stint, but even then I knew what you mean. Through the eyes of an 8 year old, when the '87 Skins came onto the field to face the Broncos in the SB, they just seemed like the biggest kids on the playground. It was just a feeling you got.

Then in 91 when they faced the Bills, I was 12, and I knew a lot more about the game. You could see the confidence from the coaching staff and the attitude from the players.

This team doesn't quite feel like that yet, I think you have to establish yourself consistently as a playoff threat to get that feeling. But you can see the confidence and the effort with this team. I think we're going to do damage.

I did not have that old tingle about the 2005 team, but it has re-emerged this year.

The "don't get excited but don't miss a minute of this ride" feeling.

I hear ya dblanch, I get that same feeling too. Problem is, I can see us representing the NFC, but that's when my good feeling goes away. I'm hoping it's just jitters or something.
I truely have no doubt that we can beat any NFC team, but we will have our hands full with a team like tha Pats. I will feel a ton better if the Pats lose before the super bowl.

I understand that facing the Patriots is "pie in the sky" thinking, but since the subject was breached...
Wouldn't it be sweet to meet them in the big game and give them a bit of payback for running up the score this season! I'm sure if the Skins can get to the dance and maybe play the Pats, he and the rest of the team have a long memory. I'm still not convinced that NE will be there in the SB. Indy could knock them off. Or Jacksonville.
It's gonna be a great playoffs!!
Go REDSKINS!!!!!

Jesus. Not only do I remember the "heyday of the 80"s" team but I remember the first "heyday" team of the 70's as well. Coach George Allen, Jergensen, Kilmer, Brown, Haraway, Jefferson, Taylor, Hanburger, Fischer, Houston, Bass; all names probably lost on you lil' puppies.
The first Super Bowl against the Dolphins will forever be etched in my mind. Bass streaking down the sidelines making a game of it against the undefeated Dolphins after Yepremian's botched attempt at a pass.
I know the old feeling dblanch66 is refering to and it is nice to feel it coming back. We are in a great position here as no one expects much from us...except for us fans and the team.
