Winskins 08-10-2004, 12:33 AM The surprise of the game for me was Hasselbeck. He looked sharper than a Ginsu knife. I wouldn't mind seeing more play like that from the QB position. Also, our boy ST got 2 picks. No more nay saying my brethren. He looks like the real deal with his lightning fast reaction skills. Redskins_P 08-10-2004, 12:35 AM Very impressed with Sean Taylor, Mccullough, Gari Scott, M.Washington, Simon, N.Clemons. What a difference in the defense. They still have ALOT of work to do, but they're making strides. They're tackling much better and the QB did get some good pressure. Gmanc711 08-10-2004, 12:37 AM Overall, minus the Jansen injury, I cant say I'm *extremely dissapointed* like others. Offensivley, I mean what can you expect. Coles, Portis were only in for a series, Gardner maybe for two. The starting D was only in for one series as a whole, I think Bowen, Mitchell and Andre Lott were the only starters in for more than the first series tonight. The only place where I see honest dissapointement was the QB play. For two guys ( Ramsey and Brunell ) who are supposed to be battling it out for the starting QB spot, they didnt look at that competitive with each other. Granted they both threw 8 times, Brunell 4/8 for 18 yrds, Ramsey 3/8 for 12 yrds, they just didnt look all there. Hopefully its somtihng that they will clean up, which I expect them to do with Gibbs. They should be looking better in no time. Hasslebeck however, might be making a run at the spot as well. He went 7/10 for 118 yrds and a TD. Now it was against third stringers, yeah, but he still looked more comfortable and more effective than anyone. I'm not saying he should be starting, or really considered for the spot, but they should defintley take a harder look at him, even if just to light a fire under Ramsey's or Brunell's ass. The bright spot of the evening is defintley Sean Taylor. Two picks in three drives and One TD, he was also in on a bunch of tackles, overall very impressive. For anyone still arguing about him and KWII, just look at who is actually amking plays for his team, and who's not even with his team at all. Finally, Jon Jansen. This is one of the biggest peices to our offense and our line. If he really is out for the year, hes gonna be a tough guy to replace. I really feel bad for the guy, not missing a game in 5 years, and hes been here through all of the bullshit of the past little while. I really hope they are just jumping to conclusions, but its not looking good. MTK 08-10-2004, 12:41 AM Positives: -Hasselbeck looked good even though he was playing against scrubs -McCullough looked pretty decent -Let's remove any doubts we may have had about Taylor, the guy is a pure baller Negatives: -Brunell and Ramsey both looked uncomfortable and out of sync, let's just be happy this is week one of the preseason. They still have 4 weeks of camp to iron things out, I'm not worried. -Do I even need to say it, ok I will... Jon Jansen, done for the year :( JWsleep 08-10-2004, 12:46 AM Things looked pretty out of synch on offense, but it is very early. One thing I found very interesting was Ramsey's poor play. He was hit a lot, had a deflected pass, audibled and caused a false start: all shades of Spurrier's team. He needs to get comfortable quick, or he better watch out for Hasselback. The D got run over on a few series in the first quarter, and only drops by Denver kept it close. But there were a few sparks, and Taylor totally lived up to the hype. Two ints and a TD. Almost won the game by himself! Overall, the secondary looked pretty good. But man, we better be able to stop the run, or we're in trouble. Glad they got the win for Gibbs, and let's remember that this is a very early game, with only a little bit of camp. Jansen is a serious blow, but if it had to happen, at least we've still got a month for Buges to patch it together. Nice to see the counter trey at work again. Winskins 08-10-2004, 12:48 AM Yeah ya'll, I gotta say that the line wasn't doing the best job today. Without JJ (Jon Jansen), they are really going to have to pick up the intensity. beg8878 08-10-2004, 12:49 AM When I was reading some article about how Jansen was sayign he wished he was able to say that he had played every snap, not just every game, I thought to myself that he may be jinxing himself....so what happens, first game, out for the year....go figure!!!! skinznut 08-10-2004, 12:49 AM I think the doubts about Taylor are all put to rest. One thing we definitely need to work on is the run defense. Even with the starters in there, we weren't stuffing the run. The o-line needs some more work especially now that Jansen is pretty much gone for the season. Overall it looked like the first pre-season game is supposed to look: sloppy. I think by next month, Joe will fix a lot of problems and get everybody to the level they need to be at. Oh yeah, WE WON! |
