hurrykaine 12-29-2007, 01:55 PM I've never understood people saying that he's lost his fire for coaching.
He didn't need to come back and put his legacy on the line for the Redskins. He was doing quite well in NASCAR, and he has a bust in Canton. He didn't come back for a paycheck, that's for damn sure.
I believe he will sign a 2 year extension after this season and he will continue working his ass off trying to get this ship back on course.
There are 3 things that should never be questioned with Joe Gibbs. His faith, his work ethic, and his leadership abilities.
The lack of fire in his eyes is not a comment on his passion for coaching the skins and determination to turn us into a perennial winner. I don't doubt that he's still all about the latter two. Its about the confidence (without the arrogance) that he can accomplish what he wants to.
Perhaps "fire in the eyes" is not the best term for what I'm describing. That confidence in his eyes which he had the first go around has disappeared
I dunno, I just don't see anything different when I see Gibbs on the sidelines as opposed to 20 years ago. He's always been stoic and focused.
It's funny that when the team wins, people see "fire in his eyes". When the team loses he looks lost and confused. I think people are just seeing what they want to see.

Don't forget that he was also a national racquetball champion at the age of 35. With that said I fully agree with your comments. The only factor that I know of right now that may affect his decision is his family.

Can you say WINNER? Anything this man touches, he basically turns to gold. The man is blessed, no other great coach whether Lombardi, Noll, Walsh, Parcells, Belichick, can claim that.

Do you have a man crush on Joe?
70Chip 12-29-2007, 03:18 PM I think that Gibbs is the same as he ever was. It's the players who have found their Mojo baby.

So what if I do? Do you have a problem with that?

No, I don't have a problem with it. I love Joe too. Just not as much as you do.

Do you understand why? A small lesson in history, before Gibbs arrived the Redskins were a respectable team without a modern day championship. After Gibbs arrived he made this team a winner, made it possible for people to create websites like this were we can cheer our teams on despite our differences. When Gibbs retired we sucked till he came back and the rest you know.

So Gibbs made the team a winner all by himself? There are alot of assistant coaches and former GM's that had ALOT to do with the 3 SB victories. Not to mention JKC who would always pay more $ to guys like Doug Williams sit on the bench. But people always seem to forget that.
One of the reasons the team went downhill after he left is that the team was old and Gibbs hung on to some veterans a little too long.
