He deserved the Betts extension more than Betts did. Rock would have been fine as the number two RB, and has over his career been a better ball carrier than Betts.

But he's not going to climb on the team's depth chart so we can't afford to pay him like a guy who is one play away from being the starter.

They could just let Rock go and have Betts to the same job. Makes sense to me.

Obviously not he didn't get the extension betts did. What makes you think he deserved it more?

I disagree with the thinking of Rock being fine at the #2 RB position and I guess the coach's do to due to hes never been in that role Rocks not a #2 RB in this league IMO. When Rock has been given any time in the backfield I have been very unimpressed. Rock is a really solid kick off return specialist/teamer, thats it.

I like rock a lot hes a fiery good return guy, thats been a good Redskin. But I think his time is up here OR he will be settling for a lot less cash flow than he thinks he's worth.

I also agree with the thinking of Betts filling in the role of possibly the new kick of return specialist and just let rock test the market.

Listning to Rock state his position, sounds as if he's looking for an increased role within the offense, an opportunity he won't get here.

I like him for the role he plays, and wouldn't mind seeing him return but not for a multi mil contract. As much as I like him I'd still like to see an up-grade for KOR, someone with a little more speed & elusiveness.

Rock career YPC: 4.4
Betts career YPC: 4.2

Rock career TD/Carry: .041
Betts career TD/Carry: .015

Rock is the better ballcarrier of the two. Though Betts is more of a threat out of the backfield in the passing game, Rock is the better KR guy of the two.

That's why he deserved the deal Betts got.

I think it may be a little unfair to compre the two statistically when Rock's sample isn't very big at all. I think most real football minds would say Betts is a better RB than Rock.

I know you're big on stats, but your stats for Rock aren't meaningful.

The only meaningful year in Rock's stats is 2003, when he was part of the gameplan. Everything else is, statistically, an aberration and, therefore, meaningless.

Looking at 2003, his YPC is 3.8 and TD/Carry is .009. Obviously Betts is the better carrier, even if you factor out the games he was the starter (for the same reason).

Yeah I don't forsee Rock coming back here. While he was one of the best returners last year, we can't justify keeping him for high dollar value. I would hate to see him go, but that is football today.

I'd feel good if he left and got a legitimate chance to compete.

He should go elsewhere, he doesnt get much opportunity here though he has great potential.

I wish Rock Cartwright the best. Hopefully he will get his opportunity to show what kind of running back he is, but it won't happen in Washington, the backfield is too crowded. I liked Rock from the first time I heard of his name. I remember him playing at Kansas State and loved his hit the hole and wedge at full speed running style. He may be a little unappreciated and hopefully the Redskins will find a returner that is as effective.
