Well, why doesn't anybody talk about the vikings loosing our game and then loose the next game after that? I think this scenario is more realistic than the saints and giants. What am I missing here? MTK 12-22-2007, 09:50 AM No offense Matty but what do you think EVERY team that has played the Vikings this year has had as their gameplan?....and the Vikings lead the league in rushing by a mile, have a winning record and are vying for a playoff berth....I hope the Skins have a better plan than that to win the game. It really is that simple, contain their running game, force Jackson to throw, and you have a good chance of beating them. That's the basic formula that every team against them has, it's just a matter of getting it done. What else would you want them to do? Give them the running game and try to shut down the pass?? MTK 12-22-2007, 09:52 AM there were many people here who thought we'd win 7-8 games this year, before the season even started. I don't think anyone picked us to go 16-0. Those losses have to come from somewhere.. I dont get why we have a predictions thread every week and half the thread is used to call out people who pick against the skins, or attack their "fanhood" (if that's not a word it should be) Maybe we should call it the Pick the Skins or Fuck You thread. :Flush: I picked us this week, but I don't pick us every week, and the closer it comes to game day the more nervous I am about stopping their running game. p.s. not trying to start a pissing match and not saying anything particular to you firstdown, just making an observation. It works both ways. Last week someone was calling everyone out who had picked the Skins over the Giants calling everyone homers. kirbyfan 12-22-2007, 12:19 PM It really is that simple, contain their running game, force Jackson to throw, and you have a good chance of beating them. That's the basic formula that every team against them has, it's just a matter of getting it done. What else would you want them to do? Give them the running game and try to shut down the pass?? No I am just saying that its a helluva lot easier said than done as they have proven throughout the year. They are averaging like 178 yards rushing a game and thats with EVERY single team they have played gameplanning to stop them. I'm not saying it cannot be done, I am saying that its pretty unlikely...but its all you can really do against them. The DLine and LBs are gonna have to play out of their minds football this Sunday night. kirbyfan 12-22-2007, 12:30 PM We all know our teams' scenario to make the playoffs, and everybody says that if we win-out and the saints lose one or the giants lose two we are in. Well, why doesn't anybody talk about the vikings loosing our game and then loose the next game after that? I think this scenario is more realistic than the saints and giants. What am I missing here? Apparently you are missing alot as its not more realistic at all..in fact its less realistic as it not only takes us winning out our final games but we must have help in the form of losses from other teams. Its additional factors that make it less realistic. As far as the schedule goes it isnt even close. The Vikings play us (2 pretty evenly matched teams) at HOME. Theres the difference that sways that game in favor of the Vikings and then in week 17 we play the Cowboys at home, which is gonna be a tough as hell game by any stretch as the Cowboys DONT want to lose home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Vikings play their last game AT Denver which could easily be a meaningless game for the Broncos as they are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs. Anything can happen but when you consider the evidence right now, the Vikings have the easier path by far. Gmanc711 12-22-2007, 01:00 PM I've felt good about this game all week long...Overall, I dont think the Vikings are that good but they do two things well that win you alot of football games....they run the ball well, actually they do that incredibly well, and they stop the run....now I think we can do a good job stopping the run against them, but I dont know how we'll we will establish a running game against them. We are going to need to find a way to establish the offense so that the game doesnt completley rest on Todd Collins. We are playing good football right now, perticularly on defense. If we dont turn the ball over, I like our chances. I'll go 20-16. I think this will be a very close game, but I feel good about it. kirbyfan 12-22-2007, 01:21 PM Another thing about the Vikings that I think is pretty misleading is the misconception that they are horrible against the pass. That is really false if you look at the numbers. They are 32nd in the NFL in passing yardage allowed per game but thats mostly because they are so damn tough against the run that nobody even tries to run on them much. If you look at yardage per attempt they are a very respectable 14th in the league. If you look at yardage overall the Vikings are ranked 19th, while not great thats not exactly terrible either. How about points? They rank 8th giving up only 18 pts a game, compared to the Redskins whom we think have a pretty good defense, the Skins give up 20 pts a game... I think the Vikings are a pretty good team and we are gonna have a helluva time winning in MN. We are gonna have to be on the top of our game to come out with a victory. Dlyne8r 12-22-2007, 06:00 PM After the consumption of huge quantities of kool-aid, I'm going with our boys tomorrow night for the win. I believe they are all well aware that everything counts now and everyone must step it up if they have a chance of going to the playoffs. Plus, if they force Jackson to carry the weight for the Vikes, our chances increase greatly. holcknowsbest 12-22-2007, 10:10 PM been awhile since i posted.....i am taking my skins this week 33-17. i think preparing for the giants last week is much harder than the vikings. that sounds crazy at first but the giants offense is way more dynamic than the vikes. i think given our coaching staff, which i have been impressed with since calling out gregg williams in week 6 against new england, we have a great chance of limiting thier opportunities. i think even if we are forcing them to third and short or medium we still have good chances of getting them off the field....but if we a winning on first and second down, then look out it will get ugly for the vikes....i have tremedous faith in our offense being productive against that defense. they wont do anything better than the pats, cowboys, or tampa bay. we have been through those wars already and we are better because of it, not to mention the eagles twice.......lets go baby! |
