Very unfortunate about Shockey. Say what you will, he is the emotional leader of the offense and a good TE to boot. The Giants will definitely miss him down the stretch as it gives the inconsistent Manning one less target to throw to.

As far as Shockey taunting Reed, I think it was more out of reverence and respect for Sean Taylor than it was actually putting down Doughtey. I thought it was very classy, if you could say such a thing about Shockey, to have #21 under his eyes.

Well Shockey played at the U so he knows Taylor.

Doughty has definitely surpassed my expectations of him, but I still do not think he is a starting caliber safety in this leauge. Doughty missed quite a few tackles the last couple of games, and he doesn't look extremely fluid in coverage. I believe he was responsible for Boss on that Giants TD, not only did he blow the coverage he missed the tackle on him. I am definitely not sold on Doughty being our future at the SS position, but here is to hoping he proves me wrong because I am definitely rooting for the guy, but I think it is a long shot to think that he is going to be our future at SS.

A voice of reason among so many admirers. Thanks RM, you are right about Doughty missing tackles, and not looking fluid. I might add that Doughty is not very fast, and in fact looks to be in slow motion while in coverage. I pray we find a gem of a Safety in next years draft, somewhere after we draft a DE/DL, and a couple of OL-men.

Finally, there is probably nothing I hate more about today's NFL players than when they celebrate after every play - even bad ones! What I mean is that there were several plays where NYG players were poorly covered but *dropped* the ball - and OUR PLAYERS high-fived and chest butted like they did something GOOD! REDICULOUS! Did you happen to see wade Phillips after Akers missed a field goal in the dallas/philly game? He was swinging his gut to and fro like he just a free meal at the Waffle House.

A response and a question...

My response is, Reed Doughty is a 2nd year player from a Division 1-AA Northern Colorado. He DEFINITELY deserves credit for his play considering everything (ST, his personal life, and adjustment to this game speed). At his pace from the passed 6 games, he'd definitely have a 100 tackle season over 16 games. This is actually not such a great thing. Safeties with 100-120 tackles in a season means something is missing from your interior d-line or linebackers... which lead to my question...

What happened to Rocky McIntosh???

First 8 games - 67 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 FF

Last 6 games - 19 tackles, 0 sacks, 1 FF

(Yes, he didn't play most of the game last night but I had noticed his lack of production before that)

From what I saw, Reed Doughty for the most part was in position on coverage, supported the run well and looked solid. He did his job and considering where the Redskin secondary is right now, that's pretty good. If I was in the Redskin organization, I wouldn't panic and pick a safety high in the draft, I might go for help later in the draft. The defensive line and offensive line need more help.

The guy that scares me is LeeTorrence. He plays a soft corner, playing way back off the receiver. He is tentative in his coverage and seems afraid to jump a route when he is in position. A serious liability in coverage and obviously the G-Women were aware of it because they were going after him constantly. Luckily the wind save his butt.

Leigh Torrence vs Ade Jimoh in a skills challenge would be a toss-up. He is TD waiting to happen out there... SCARY.
