I say focus on the offensive line first, the defensive line second, then worry about everything else.
THIS Years Free Agent Class Is Incredible!!mheisig 12-10-2007, 12:50 PM I say focus on the offensive line first, the defensive line second, then worry about everything else. SFREDSKIN 12-10-2007, 01:06 PM Asomugha -- if he opts out and we can get him, I would be THRILLED. A buddy of mine is a raiders fan, so I see some games. This kid is great. Big and Fast. I second that, plus he's tall. I think he could be a bargain compared to the others. With our #1 pick, we should go for either a DE or WR, then consider OL and DB. sandtrapjack 12-10-2007, 01:22 PM 20 million in the red is a bad place to start free agency. Convert some bonuses and restructure some deals, it will still be hard for this team to compete with oither teams for the talents of a Asante Samual, Trufant. Dallas is 20 Million in the black on the cap and you KNOW they will be shopping for some big-time talent in the secandary when free agency starts. Don't you have a Tony Romo poster to go jack off too? (I'm kidding) Bill B 12-10-2007, 01:27 PM How about the Skins stay out of the free agent market for a year and stick with what they got and build through the draft? I know this is not the popular route and "winning the offseason championship" creates excitement, but if we restructure the contracts to get under the cap and start the youth movement by rebuilding through the draft I think the team will be in a better position in the long run. GridIron26 12-10-2007, 01:30 PM I don't think it's such a lock that Springs is gone. And if we do keep him, I still think we should draft a CB in the first round to groom into a starter in a year or two (Talib or Cason remain my favorites); though I keep hearing Derrick Harvey attached to the Redskins come draft time. Still early though. If we do go the free agent route, I think we should keep any eye on Nnamdi Asomugha (sp?) from the Raiders. I think he can and will opt out. And he's the type of big, physical cornerback that Williams likes. Yes yes definitely, I really think we should try and get him.. NFLNetwork 12-10-2007, 01:31 PM we have 3 legit starting corners, we will loose 1 probably at the end of this year. carlos rodgers is coming off a major injury and will not be able to start 100% next year (its a 2 year injury). Even so, i think he'll never be more than a #2 corner...why not look at a #1?? Trufant, Hall, Samuel...these guys are solid corners and its rare talents to all be on the market at once...its a great oppurtunity to get corner for less money. NFLNetwork - what makes you think that these 3 corners will get any lesser contracts? Just because there are 3 high profile corners on the market at the same time does not mean there is an oversupply of corners on the market. All 3 of these guys are going to get huge contracts and the Skins are not even be in the running for any of them. Teams around the league are always gunning for good corners and unfortunately there a quite a number of teams that have a huge surplus of cap space that will be willing to spend the big bucks for all three of these guys. One nice thing the cap problems bring to the Redskin organization is that it will eventually force them to stop building the team through the free agency method - soon the Skins will have to follow their player personelle research and build via the draft and hopefully they will prove their worth when they do pick players via the draft. Lets stop the word that NFL players use when talking about the Burgundy and Gold - you know the saying "I came to the Redskins to get paid". I want this team to be built through the draft and stop being known in NFL circles as the place players get overpaid. NFLNetwork 12-10-2007, 01:50 PM because when the market is flooded with a specific position, it lowers the bargaining price. That’s basic economics whether you are negotiating free agents in football or a construction contract, the more competition the greater chance of a bargain. 3 guys can't demand "Nate Clemons" money because most teams don't have it, or can't afford that price. There's going to be compromise Paintrain 12-10-2007, 01:56 PM I'd be all for adding one of those corners and moving Springs to FS so we can draft offense rather than trying to replace Taylor (at least next year) thru the draft.. Nobody drafts 3 safeties early (albeit we have extenuating circumstances) in 5 years.. |
