BDBohnzie 12-07-2007, 04:53 PM Patellar Subluxation - Kneecap Dislocation (http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/patelladisorders/a/kneecapdisloc.htm)
Why do kneecap dislocations become a recurrent problem?
When the kneecap comes out of joint the first time, ligaments that were holding the kneecap in position are torn. The most commonly torn structure is called the medial patellofemoral ligament, or MPFL. This ligament secures the patella to the inside (medial) of the knee. When a kneecap dislocation occurs, something must fail to allow the kneecap out of the groove, and usually it is the MPFL.
Once the MPFL is torn, it often does not heal with proper tension, and the kneecap can subsequently dislocate more easily.
That is why recurrent dislocation of the kneecap occurs in a high percentage of patients who have this injury.
70Chip 12-07-2007, 05:08 PM Yeah I knew shoulders can pop out easily after the first dislocation, but is it the same with knees? I'm no doc, but it seems knee dislocations are darn rare.
I don't really know what I'm talkin about on this one though, to be fully honest!
Yeah, it doesn't just pop out walking down the street, but being hit in the pocket could certainly create a situation where it could happen again. The good news is that when mine has re-popped, it hurts really, really bad but the pain and the immobility doesn't last as long as the first time. So, it's conceivable, that if he re-dislocated it during a game he could come out briefly then go back in. Or they could fix it, I think. I always assumed they could repair my knee surgically, but I never had it done.
JWsleep 12-07-2007, 05:36 PM Update from JLC:
UPDATE: Gibbs says Campbell will not need surgery and will not start at the Giants, but said there is no timetable beyond that. He said the doctors are still reviewing everything. Again, I hear that Jason was told to expect a 4 week recovery time, preliminarily. We'll see how quickly his knee responds. Also, Gibbs said the slew of guys banged up Thursday night - Springs, Smoot, Samuels (foot), Cooley, Daniels, Portis all look better and are not expected to miss any games with their various ailments
Jason's injury continues what has been a nasty trend, this is likely now the 4th member of that 2005 Auburn offensive, first-round draft class to suffer a season ending knee injury. Campbell follows teammate Carlos Rogers, Miami'a Ronnie Brown and Tampa's Cadillac Williams. Strange.

That is crazy about the Auburn knee injuries. I'm glad he doesn't have to go under the knife tho, but he needs this playing time big time. I felt for the rest of this year he would work out this kinks in his game and get better for 2009 season. He will be a strong force next year and limit his mistakes and become one of the best QB in the league.
wilsowilso 12-07-2007, 06:42 PM Campbell is a tough dude. He could have blown out his knee twice already this year.

Campbell Sepaks
Jason sounded a couple of time like his season is over, and from a realistic standpoint he made it sound as if he knows he has to be smart about his knee injury. However, he said he would take it "week-to-week," meeting the media while on crutches with his left leg in a brace.
Campbell said he will root on his teammates and rehab as best he can. Avoiding surgery was key for him, and he's trying to stay positive while realizing he has probably thrown his last pass in 2007 (barring the Redskins getting in the post-season, at least).
"It could be a lot worse," Campbell said. "I'm in a position right now where I don't have to worry about any kind of surgery or anything, and that's a plus. But you put a lot of hours and a lot of time into the offseason to put yourself in a situation like this - to help lead your team to the playoffs - and not to be in there down the home stretch, it's a tough feeling. But one thing I can't do is get my head down and get down on myself."

they totally occur easily after the first one. my left knee has popped out of place a handfull of times since my initial injury a few years ago and even after getting it back in place, it hurts like hell.
CancunCantinaBartender 12-08-2007, 12:26 PM I hated to watch him go down on Thursday. It is good that there is no ligament damage though. I think having him watch Todd Collins in action will only help him learn more about Saunders' offense. Todd opened up some plays that Campbell wasn't even allowed to attempt. Did you notice the plays where he was releasing the ball before the receiver even made their cut. I hope he can keep it up!
GO SKINS!!
skinsguy 12-08-2007, 01:30 PM Watching Campbell going down in that game made me feel that the Redskins are truly a cursed football team. However, his injury sounds a lot better than what I had anticipated initially, and Collins came in and played very well. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for Campbell. He can get some rest and hopefully when he plays again, it will be behind a healthy, starting OL line.

I was thinking the same thing. In a way, it might be good for Campbell to take a step back and watch someone who knows the offense inside and out; maybe pick up on a few things he might have missed on the field.
