I don't understand it..a year ago we were screaming for gibbs to cut this Todd Collins guy....
He comes in the game and throws for 224 yards and no int's...wtf is going on here...
I always thought TC was a terrible qb This dude looked like tom brady when Bledsoe went down....
Someone tell me What is going on..

Todd Collins grew a pair and stepped up. Saunders has always expressed his confidence in the vet, and he proved he could make plays.
That pass to Yoder was money, but the one to Cooley war borderline reckless. Who cares... he made it happen. Good for him.
Oh... and the Bears suck.

Yeah when I first saw JC go down and Todd come in I was panicking. After he fumbled and didn't even remotely get close to getting it, I screamed and cussed for Gibbs to put Brunell in. Collins proved me wrong and played a great game though. Hopefully he keeps it up until we can get JC back.

Did someone just say they screamed for Brunell to come in???? Oh sweet Jesus, please don't let that happen!
He knows the system inside and out. I guess we shouldn't be too surprised, Saunders always said he believed in him. Guess he was right.

Oh... and the Bears suck.
I think you hit on the most likely explanation. They are horrible on defense this year.
I did notice the extreme difference in velocity between Campbell and Collins. Collins' balls tend to float. We got away with it because the Bears aren't covering very well. But in the back of our minds, I think we all know that when we play better defenses, we're not going to get that much separation from defenders, and some of those slow floating passes are going to get knocked down and won't reach their target.
PS 54 yards of Collins' total was attributable to the short screen to Portis which he nearly took to the house. The Bears missed a number of tackles on that play. Take that one away, and you get 14-19 for 170 yards. Still a strong night. But it was the Bears' terrible coverage that helped that.
Collins can run the offense, he knows the system. But against a good defense, I don't think he can make all the throws. Hopefully we can get by with screens, slants, and a strong running game.

my thoughts on why he did well:
1) Collins knows the offense...he's Saunder's practice general. he knows the timing...
2) The bears are a beaten up defense. Injuries to key players and underwhelming play
have plagued them all season, sound familiar?
3) Nobody was prepared to see Collins in the game...so they didn't game plan for him...a
huge competitive advantage. next week will be a HUGE test, the giants will be
prepared.

it all boils down to pass protection. the skins protected well, and Collins benefited from it. against the giants pass rush will be the story of the game next week
