...when it comes to payroll.

Can anyone say 'value for money'? Didn't think so.

Well the Saints are third, Bills 4th, Chiefs 5th, and 49ers 7th. Mediocrity costs a pretty penny. Personally I get kind of tired of these payroll things since they are kind of difficult to understand all the intricacies and mostly just used as a way to bash the Skins.

I don't think losing feels any better if you're doing it on the cheap.

And it continues to be very depressing.
Seems like quite a few teams not getting much bang for their buck.

USA today is not know for in-depth reporting, that's why there's no mention of dead cap space, etc.
Maybe we're still the worst in all categories, but we could be on the way to rebounding after AA was traded & next we'll cut Loyd. Of course we'll have some dead cap space from that to deal with, but it seems that the amount of dead space has been slowly declining.

Payroll only includes actual payments issued to players, it does not include other salary cap charges, like the acceleration of bonuses to dead money.
This means our team actually paid $123 million in cash to the players this year. A lot of that was due to renegotiation of signing bonuses.
The payroll number means squadoosh. It's the cap number that matters.
