Reche Caldwell and Keenan McCardell: 2008 Plans?

Those guys all sound like more #2 and #3 receivers to me. We already have plenty of those.

Among many other things, this team needs a knockout punch at wideout -- a true star, a playmaker you can always count on in the clutch. Even Santana Moss doesn't fit that label.

Beemnseven, I agree that the team needs anohter WR but there is not much out there as far as playmakers that are available and I would hate to see the Skins trade any more picks. Plus in my opinion the Redskins need to get a stud defensive end in the draft in the worst way - opposing qb's are getting to much time and Phillip Daniels is getting too old so we should not trade the first round pick for anyone.

Does anyone know who the good wideouts coming out of college are that are available rounds 2 and down assuming we take a defensive end with the first pick?

Bernard Berrian, Patrick Crayton, Bryant Johnson, maybe Matt Jones. Those are the first names that come to mindIf Crayton walks from Dallas (i.e. Jerry Jones lets him get away), he could blossom into an absolute superstar here.

I would rather us take the picks and go after some D-Line talent or Oline talent. I think we could do just fine on the offensive side of the ball with what we have. Moss (if healthy) was one of the best playmakers at receiver a couple of years ago. We could use a true #2, but look at what Al has done in previous years with the lack of WR in KC. Look at what Brady did with a less than avg receiving core in NE. Moss, Randel El, Thrash, Espy, Caldwell or McCardell, Plus the new guy Mix, we have talent enough to win games and put points up. if Mix turns out to be pretty good, that gives us another red zone guy w/ cooley, and sellers (stud in redzone!)

Do you think that price would include a #1 pick? Probably if the Redskins are doing the trading it would. But Javon Walker went for a #2 (coming off the ACL and after refusing to play for GB again, plus he did not have the resume Ocho Cinco has and also hasn't worked out too well in Denver). Moss went for a 4th (don't see any bargains like this coming down the pike, the first time he was traded it was for Nap Harris and the #7 overall pick), Welker went for a 2nd and 7th (I think). Since Ocho hasn't begged out of Cincy yet it wouldn't seem like the Skins would be getting any bargains. I also wonder about such having a such a dominant personality (and I like Chad) with Jason, I wonder how that would play.

It'd nice to have a guy start here in DC and grow up with Jason, though the WR development process is often a painful one and even the "can't miss" Calvin Johnson hasn't contributed all that much to this point.

First, no way we're going to get a bargain. Our MO has been to identify the guy that we want and then to overpay to get him, that includes re-doing his contract. Our three headed monster at the top falls in love with "their guy," flies him in, and throws a $10 million dollar signing bonus at him to keep him here.

Moss was great in 2005 but that's ancient history. Since then he's been injured and inconsistent. It's time to find a true #1 WR.

You can't count on a guy like Mix who we picked up off a practice squad.

I just dont know how an organization that has so much money tied up in one position would be justified in using high draft picks, and then throw another 10-20 million at an unproven player. Moss if healthy can play a #1. He has shown the last few weeks he can get open, I think he is limited by the coaching staff in some degree. Now, I do agree we would benefit from a true #2 guy. also, who is to say another year in Als offense these guys wouldn't flourish (randel el, caldwell, trash ect)

We all have an opinion, I guess we'll find out in April. I dont see how any pick would be wrong since we really haven't done crap with the current roster. Only thing that we should NOT draft is a QB. so, if they go WR.. so be it. He better be a complete stud.

Caldwell has been a pleasant surprise..Even with Moss's injuries lately I dont think WR is a top priority in the Draft. Some playmakers on the D line is what we need in the draft.

The problem with Moss(outside of health and inconsistency) is he's not a true red zone threat. His advantage is his speed which works to his advantage between the 20's, but speed is basically a nonfactor from 20 yards in. Height, strength, and hops are the best attributes to have in a red zone target and there really aren't any Redskin receivers that possess all of those assets.

Cooley has size and strength, and he is the best receiving threat in the red zone, but the problem is every team in the league knows that. Every time Campbell went to Cooley in the endzone yesterday, he was triple covered. I'm actually surprised that Cooley was able to have such good receiving numbers, since there were Bills drapped all over him, all day long.

But Washington still needs a true possession receiver. A big receiver with good hands that can bail Campbell out when his passes are a foot or two off the mark. Something which Santana Moss seems unable to do. I don't know how or where they'll find this guy, but they need to do it ASAP.

Here are a couple of big WR's in the 2008 draft that may be available with the Skins pick. Please note I advicate using the 1st round pick on a DE, but if we have to go WR than here is a list I think of WR's that may fit the bill:

Adarius Bowman, Oklahoma State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 215.
40 Time: 4.48.
Projected Round: 1.
In his first year at Oklahoma State, Adarius Bowman had 1,181 yards and 12 touchdowns. Caught 13 passes for 300 yards and four scores against Kansas. If Bowman runs a 4.4, he's definitely going in the top 20.

D.J. Hall, Alabama
Height: 6-3. Weight: 190.
40 Time: 4.44.
Projected Round: 1-2.
Caught 62 passes for 1,056 yards with an inexperienced quarterback throwing to him. If John Parker Wilson improves, Hall's stock will soar.

James Hardy, Indiana
Height: 6-6. Weight: 215.
40 Time: 4.54.
Projected Round: Top 20 Pick.
Caught at least five passes in all but one game starting in October 2006. Had nine receptions for 151 yards and a TD at Purdue.

Jaison Williams, Oregon
Height: 6-4. Weight: 243.
40 Time: 4.57.
Projected Round: 1-2.
An intriguing prospect. Look at his weight. How can anyone defend him inside the end zone? If Jaison Williams can run a 4.5, he'll go in the first round. Caught 68 passes for 984 yards and six touchdowns in 2006.

Limas Sweed, Texas
Height: 6-5. Weight: 218.
40 Time: 4.54.
Projected Round: 2.
I've dropped Sweed a bit because it's quite apparent that his 40 time will really hurt him.
