BrunellMVP?

What happened to reason number 6 MVP?

Anyhow:

1. Agreed. Inexcusable.

2. With the bad weather conditions toward the end of the game I think there's no point in risking a turnover. And that's not "playing not to lose" That's playing smart. You run the ball, run the clock down and get a good punt to pin them back deep. I probably would have lined up in the shotgun and run a draw or little dump off pass personally. By the way, Frost's punt was awful. Just awful.

3. Moment of silence means moment of silence. The rest of the league understood that, why couldn't we? It's like that idiotic "OH" during the Star-Spangled Banner.

4. Save for the Giants game, we're really not blowing massive leads. That doesn't make it ok but it just means we are a competitive team but not a dominant team. A lot of it has to do quite honestly with...

5. Jason Campbell. The guy is going to be the best Redskins QB since Sammy Baugh. I 100% believe that, but (with very few exceptions) every great QB goes through the kind of season he's going through right now. For whatever reason, I think of Kobe's three airballs in the playoffs 10 years ago when I think of Campbell

6. "Please Stand By"

7. The Browns got ROBBED today...and that really really hurts us. Seriously didn't anyone else see that? That was definitely a TD

Not sure what happened to six, other than I'm a moron. In terms of the moment of silence, I agree with you completely, just wasn't sure if you were at the stadium to hear why they were cheering- however misplaced. for the record, since we now have the nats, I'm not sure why people yell (o's!!!).
As for the "playing smart" I think we'll have to agree to disagree...while I think your call of a shotgun draw would have been infinitely better than what we ran (at least showing sign of a throw), we were only ahead by 2 points, and buffalo had kicked 4 previous fg's (while moving the ball well), not to mention the fact that our prevent defense is dismal. I really think we have to play to win there, a first down wins it.

I like everyone here am heartbroken, upset, frustrated, angry, furious, and am desperateky in need of answers....
I have none, but I will post a few comments based on what I've read here...

First- I agree that its inexcusible for gibbs not to know that calling a second time out is not allowed. No ifs, ands, or buts, he needs to know the rules, he's paid to know the rules. He knows this...

Second- when its third down and 8 and another first down wins the game, you don't call a running play that gives an NFL team the ball with a minute left trailing by less than a field goal. Gutless.

Third- the fans that cheered during the moment of silence were reponding to people that yelled "we love you sean". Still inappropriate, but their hearts were in the right place.

Forth- I think the biggest thing that gets me is that every week I get amped up (because if we could only play a complete game- we'd make the playoffs and likely do damage) only to watch us crumble under a littany of gaffs usually reserved for steve martin movies. How we continue to torture our fans with sloppy uninspired play is mind boggling. We've been fooled 6 times this year, what does that say about us?

Fifth- I love jason cambell. He is no doubt our future and he gives me hope, but there is no question that he chokes up a bit in the red zone. This will get better with time.

Seventh- the reality is, we have now lost 4 in row, our coaches continue to make mental mistake and attempt to sit on leads, our line is beat up (randy we need you buddy) and our best player just died (we miss ST. 21). Bottomline is that our playoff chances are grim.

good post,although I'm not sure about #5,I like Campbell,but right now he reminds me of the wrong Manning,and I'm sure giants fans were saying the same thing about Manning that were now saying about Jason,hopefully in time he will turn out like the other mannings{Peyton or Archie}

Let's grant Joe the option of finishing his contract, if he so chooses. He's the one who truly believes in Jason, commands the respect of every player and has brought respectability back to the franchise in terms of attracting free agents and not sacrificing draft picks. Granted, some of his FAs have been busts and most picks have yet to make an impact. This doesn't mean you jump ship and overhaul, when there is a committed, determined HC with a plan in place. Many fans will argue Gibbs' coaching hasn't solved very much the last few seasons, but that's evidenced only in the fine print of the W/L record. What Joe has done is brought in the pieces necessary to play his style of ball: power running. Whether or not Portis epitomizes the hard-nosed grunt of a back Gibbs prefers is up for debate, but the other cogs of the offense, such as the big offensive line (when healthy), Cooley, the short-to-medium yardage possession tight end, and Sellers, the bowling ball fullback, certainly were meant to support a running philosophy. It was thought that Brunell would have enough of an arm to toss it deep to what are, let's face it, little more than downfield-only threat Moss, and that Campbell now would continue to fill that role, but in a much more lively and effective way than Brunell.

I think the "boogeyman" on the coaching squad is Saunders. If you take into account the makeup of this team, which lacks explosive playmakers and improvisational open-field players, Saunders is not a good fit. I think when Gibbs addresses the matter of whether or not the Skins are capable of making a big play, he has to insist "yes, they are" in a nod to Saunders (Joe wouldn't really want to publicly ruffle the feathers of a millionaire assistant, now would he?). Yes, Joe makes the crucial decisions during games, but is it him who calls the offensive plays anymore? No. Everyone has been remarking it is Gibbs' conservative play-calling that has been the albatross of the offense, but when you are equipped with players that are manufactured to run hard and run often, how does a team put up big stats and blow away opponents?

In summary, it's one or the other that needs to go: Gibbs and his preferred offensive players, or Saunders and his preferred, but as yet unrealized, explosive, speedy playmakers. It would be a lot easier for the Skins to stick with Gibbs and the current cast of characters (with some rushing attack-oriented picks in the '08 draft and free agent signings of a similar nature) for next season than to let Saunders or a new coach take over, which would require an offensive overhaul consistent with the philosophy of that new leader. This is not excusing the lapses in discipline among the players and frequent poor judgment by Gibbs in his second stint; rather, it is talking straight about what this team was designed to do, and why it is failing at the present (thanks Saunders).

Were you around in 2003? We were straight up getting blown out in games. Do you prefer getting blown out and being the laughing stock of the league to losing close games? We should have a better record and the blame for not having one falls on the players' shoulders, the assistant coaches' shoulders, and, of course, on Gibbs' shoulders. But to think that this team is as bad or worse as the 2003 Spurrier team is simply incorrect IMO.

yeah, id rather get blown out. We as redskins fans have so much love for this team to be crushed every week when we lose in the fourth quarter. Were starting to expect losing close games. We are too vanilla. Same shit every week. Why would you want to go threw the rollercoaster of emotions everygame, when you could just get blown out.

Was the holding penalty before the field goal that made it 16-14 on us or them. Maybe i was a little confused watching the lead disappear but i couldn't understand why we wouldnt have wanted it to be 3rd and 34 if it was on Buffalo

It was on us, but accepting the penalty would not have put the Bills out of field goal range (it's assessed at the point of the foul, not the line of scrimmage) and would have given them an extra down.

I don't know what to make of the whole situation. I was born in 1990, so I totally missed everything great that the Redskins accomplished. But, when you watch classic Redskins (1981-1992) you always see a very involved and enthusiastic Joe Gibbs making phenomenal half time adjustments (offensively) and eventually coming back from a deficit.

Now, it seems that Joe Gibbs is somber and just oversees everything, not really being as involved as he once was. Why do we need someone like Al Saunders to run our offense, when we have Joe Gibbs? He is a product and perfected the "Air Coryell" System, he was the best damn offensive guru in the NFL from 1979 to 1992. I just hope history repeats itself, and this is just the drought before they hire someone like Lombardi, Allen, or Gibbs.

I cannot believe that you actually mean what you said in the post quoted above. You'd really rather see us play like a pathetic team than see us play like a decent team that just can't close? Wow.

I really think something that would make this team click is to just say listen, everyone out there is a pro. Let them get out there and make the plays we brought them in here to do. There is no way that the Patriots or Colts run that ball on 3rd down yesterday. I think it is easier to play aggressive when we have the lead, if you lose, the fans understand what you were doing. I am honestly not sure if we even run that ball during the 2005 playoff run. Yesterday was a game full of emotions though, just for that team to step foot on that field made me proud to be a Redskins fan!
