SouperMeister 12-01-2007, 02:05 AM I wish folks would not fall in to the trap of thinking that the death of Sean Taylor and the fate that awaits these horrible men are somehow a part of the same pathology. Sean died righteously and with honor, defending his baby, his girlfriend, and his home. These others are filthy predators who at the very least deserve to permanently seperated from orderly society so that there animalistic proclivities can no longer terrorize the community. If there are those who are wondering how the corner gets turned on violent crime, I say it begins there. Let us make plain that Sean's behavior in the final hour is to be admired and emulated. Let us make plain that these others have brought everlasting shame upon themselves and deserve the unanimous contempt of decent people everywhere, and let us never, ever get the two confused.Well said. Perhaps Sean's lasting tribute will be a growing intolerance for perpetrators of gun violence. There needs to be more public outrage against criminals who have taken the streets of our cities. I just hope that Sean's death will not be in vain, and that it sparks some real collective soul searching that results in less gun violence.
That the killers have been found will make the league-wide tributes even more poignant given Taylor's heroic defense of his girlfriend and daughter.

KLHJ2 12-01-2007, 02:25 AM Go back and read SGG's post on the Florida murder statutes. This will most likely be tried as a capital case unless there's a plea deal to a lesser included offense.
Rivera is a juvenile, but I believe his case could be bound over to Superior Court and he would be tried as an adult.
One thing I don't like about Florida law is that they only apply Second Degree Murder to everyone involved except the one who actually pulled the trigger. In NC, we have an element in our laws called "acting in concert", which means if you were involved in the offense, you are treated just as if you committed the murder yourself.
It's still too early to say what exactly these individuals will be indicted with. If this get to trial on a first degree murder charge, I doubt if a jury will recommend the death penalty. Mostly because of the defendant's age.
Thanks LB, for the insight. I thought that a capital crime included a combination of murder and rape or a double murder or a double rape. I also believed that a single murder could only be considered a capital crime if it was a cop, servicemember, or government official. Apparently, a murder in conjunction with an armed robery is a capital crime as well.
JWsleep 12-01-2007, 02:57 AM I don't have words to express how I feel about these worthless pieces of shit.

Each state has the right to define "capital murder," within the limits of the 8th Amendment. Florida does not mess around with criminals. Like many states, Florida has pretty strict murder statutes when it comes to murders committed during the course of the commission of a felony.
SmootSmack 12-01-2007, 03:21 AM It's so agonizing to think about. I mean if only he had been with the team on Sunday (even in street clothes on the sidelines), and it's not like the team was way out in Seattle or something like that. They were just a few hours away in Tampa.
But then I think if he wasn't there the suspects might have shot and killed his g/f or heaven forbid his daughter in a panic instead.
Just an awful situation all around.
Vulta121 12-01-2007, 04:09 AM Turn on the electric, get the bucket of water ready, and trap those fuckers in. It's time to fry some scum-bags. Listen guys this sounds harsh but you know what these guys should get tried like adults and put to death. Even if they didn't want to kill him they shouldn't be invading someone's home. I live in Miami and I keep a guns in my room I just wish they would have come to my house instead of Sean's.
mike340 12-01-2007, 04:29 AM So who´s their dentist? And what´s with the geisha ´do for the first one?
I don´t care that much about the sentence. I just want them locked up in a nice facility with lots of ´Canes/Redskins fans and lax supervision. It would allow some inmates to do what they enjoy the most and save taxpayer dollars at the same time.
