BleedBurgundy 11-26-2007, 06:54 PM Redskins Post-Game - washingtonpost.com (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2007/11/20/DI2007112000547.html)
Cindy, who helps out JLC, fielded questions on the WP's website around 2:30 today. Cindy seems to suggest that the coma was medically induced. If true, that's very good news.
Thanks for the link. Why are people on that site asking questions about Sundays game? WHO CARES? I don't give a shit about the rest of the season right now, I just want to here that ST is going to be ok.
Ghost 11-26-2007, 06:55 PM One thing seems certain to me. Whoever reported that the artery was completely severed is wrong. He would have been pronounced dead twelve hours ago. As many have pointed out he would have quickly bled to death before any paramedics even got to him let alone flew him to the hospital. The fact that the doctors operated on him certainly means that he was still alive. If the artery was completely severed and it took thirty or fourty minutes or something to get him to the operating table he would be dead and it wouldn't be some big secret.
While his body is still alive, the fear is that he is brain-dead or brain-damaged. If it's the former, eventually they will take him off life support. If it's the latter, he's got a lot of rehab ahead of him and he may never be the same. Regardless, I think you are right. If it were a complete rupture, he would have bled out completely within a few minutes and we wouldn't even be having this discussion. I certainly hope he pulls through.
GMScud 11-26-2007, 06:55 PM Does anyone have a link to the Wilbon article/comments you guys are referring to?
FRPLG posted this earlier as a quote from Wilbon, but there was no link:
"People's opinions are shaped by the way they've grown up, the way they see the world, what they know about the world the person in question grew up in, etc. Sean Taylor isn't the only guy I know who fits his general profile. I've known guys like Taylor all my life, grew up with some. They still have shades of gray and shouldn't be painted in black and white...I know how I feel about Taylor, and this latest news isn't surprising in the least, not to me. Whether this incident is or isn't random, Taylor grew up in a violent world, embraced it, claimed it, loved to run in it and refused to divorce himself from it. He ain't the first and won't be the last. We have no idea what happened, or if what we know now will be revised later. It's sad, yes, but hardly surprising." -Michael Wilbon

Thanks, scud. I see what has everyone up in arms. Seems like a really inappropriate comment to make when a man is fighting for his life. Not the time for, "I told you so..." Really lowers my opinion of Wilbon.
CanadianSkin 11-26-2007, 06:57 PM Prayers go out to Sean and his family. I am coming down to watch the game against the Bears and was trying to think of what jersey I wanted to buy and I think after this (if he plays again or not) I will be picking up a 21 Taylor jersey as Sean is a true Redskin.... I hope he makes it through this and lives a great and happy life. The dream would be to see him on the field again one day, but just to be able to live and be with his wife, kid, family and friends is more then enough.
SmootSmack 11-26-2007, 07:00 PM McLean, Va.: Will your opinion of Taylor change if this does not turn out to be a random incident (e.g. home invasion)?
Michael Wilbon: No...People's opinions are shaped by the way they've grown up, the way they see the world, what they know about the world the person in question grew up in, etc. Sean Taylor isn't the only guy I know who fits his general profile. Columbia, Md.: What makes you think that Taylor was still embracing his old ways? Every thing we have heard from the Redskins and Portis is that this is a new Sean. Apparently the birth of his child really helped to straighten him out. Is this contrary to what you know?
Michael Wilbon: Sorry, but I'n not in the habit of having comapanies with their own public relations agenda tell me about black men and what they feel or don't feel. Pardon me if I'm not that easy.
There's more.
The Chat House - washingtonpost.com (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2007/11/20/DI2007112000544.html).
What he's done in my opinion is tell everyone White, Black, Hispanic (whatever) who has tried to make a change in their life and better themselves that they shouldn't bother. You are what you always were.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 11-26-2007, 07:03 PM I USED to be a Wilbon fan. That idiot is dead to me.

At what point does common sense override your enormous ego, Wilbon? Just shut up. Now is not the time.
SteelandSkin 11-26-2007, 07:04 PM Now he's reported as unconscious and non-responsive.
Come on Sean, you can recover.

I have to say what Wilborn said is bad timing at best but what he said is not that far off. When we looked at who to pick that year Taylor was not my first thought because of his past. I really hope he is going to come out of this and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and knew nothing of this! My prays are with him! Pete
