Gibbs can't retire just yet

I agree - pi$$ poor nutless decision not to go for that 4th and 1 in the second q. Typical of Gibbs 2.0. The missed field goal gave Dallas great field position and set them up for their first points of the evening. Once they tasted blood, they capitalized.

If Gibbs returning meant Saunders returning, and Campbell getting stellar at running this offense, and it kept Greg Williams' head coaching ambitions in check for another year, would you be for it?

I'm for it. But eventually we need to get someone in here who plays a little more aggressive than Gibbs does. It's just the same old shit week after week. He had to see that the defense was having a hard time and FG's was not going to cut it. We had 2 4th and ones and he didn't go for it either time.

Hindsight right? Of course, go for it and don't get the 1st then lose by 2 and he's still an idiot. On the road in a hostile environment is exactly when you don't go on 4th and 1. Not only can too much go wrong but the boost you'd give them by failing is too huge to outweigh the possible positive of picking up the 1st.

We live in an kneejerk society, and this discussion board is a prime example of that. Win or lose, being a football fan is great fun!

As for the ring of honor, that is not decided by fans so I don't know how I will feel when they do.

Try to take it easy though, your team showed more positive signs in this game than any of those 5 wins IMO.

I know this started out as a positive "why we need Gibbs thread" instead of the usual "Gibbs must go" thread that emerges after a loss.

IMO, Gibbs is a positive influence on the team to the extent that he commands player respect and gets the players to believe in what we're doing. Almost any other coach, and our bunch would've mailed it in for the season.

Gibbs has also assembled a coaching staff that couldn't possibly be assembled without his presence. Should Gibbs be gone next year, would Saunders stay? Not sure, unless he was offered the head coaching job. Bugel would almost certainly retire as well. I think Saunders staying on next year is critical to our success, given Campbell's familiarity and comfort executing the offense.

If Saunders staying is dependent upon Gibbs staying, then I'm all for Gibbs staying. Gibbs without Saunders would be useless.

I don't follow your logic here for a couple of reasons. When Gibbs brought in GW it was understood he was in line next for the main job. Why would Saunders agree to come in, knowing that, and then leave when he actually has the opportunity to run the offense w/o any outside influence (assuming Gibbs leaves)? That makes no sense. If anything Saunders stock has fallen some and he would like to prove he can create the kind of production everyone witnessed back in KC.

Second, the offense has looked "confused" until they put the ball in JC's hands. A lot of folks blame the confusion on the fact that Gibbs/Saunders were trying to somehow compromise in the gameplan - Saunders might call the plays but then Gibbs would admit in a press conference that he regularly influences the playcalling. Result: lack of cohesion, gameplan constantly was out of sync. So my argument is let one guy or the other do the friggin job w/o the confusion. Again, some guys think Gibbs should take control, I've long thought Saunders should take control. But is sounds like you're making the argument that they go best together. Didn't the first half of the season prove otherwise?

It's already hard enough for any of us to debate whether such a Redskin icon has lost his touch, but for you to point it out is rubbing it in. You are saying that we are not quality fans if we question our coach. I just pointed to the fact that Cowboy fans don't seem to question and or answer the age old question of how much is your soul worth if you are going to sell it.

If the Skins dont make the playoffs Gibbs wont be back.

It's not that Skins fans flip flop in general, but that there are just some skins fans who won't be happy with anything we do unless we go undefeated and win the Super Bowl. I, for one, have supported Joe Gibbs and will continue to support him as long as he is our head coach. Even when we do win, he gets no credit, but all of the blame for when we lose. In short, we have skins fans who look at the big picture, and skins fans who are too short sighted to look past 15 minutes ago.
