Wow, same thing happened to my wife a few years ago. She's driving through a somewhat wooded area at night, and a deer smacks right into the side of her car. And she was going about 35 mph at the time.

We get it fixed, and three weeks later she's on her way to work and in broad daylight a deer runs across the road and hits the right front quarter panel and slides across the hood of the car.

We now call that car the Deerslayer.

But the Deerslayer wasn't brand new, it was 4 years old at the time. Watching a brand new car get smacked up would upset me, too. I feel for you LB.

PS It's good you didn't react and try to avoid the thing. Or maybe you couldn't react, and in that case it was a blessing.

When you see those things, the best thing to do is simply hit the brakes and try to stop before hitting them. Don't swerve because you can run off the road and kill yourself. If you can't stop in time, then just plow through the deer without braking. Because as you're braking, the front bumper of your car dips down, and can act like a scooper for the deer. It can pick the deer up and send them through your windshield, which can of course hurt or kill you. If you just hit them as you're moving, the front of your car will have a better chance of bouncing them forward or off to the side where they can't hurt you.

But it's tough to do the right thing, because it all happens so fast.

Kind of bizarre?? That's the most bizarre thing I've heard in a while, LOL

I was terrified the first time I saw them sitting there. I mean I know they're not raging carnivores but still I'd never seen them so close. By the third day I was cool with it. It only went on for a couple of weeks by the way

First of all, did you have to special order a burgundy Accord?

Secondly, I'm glad you're OK, and I hope insurance will not bust your... chops (almost forgot you were a lady).

I just missed a buck the other night. It was dusk and I was driving on some back country roads between a lot of dairy farms and this bastard just came out of the woods to my left and went right in front of the truck. Probably about an 8-10 point buck. However seeing as how I was doing about 55 in my 07 Dodge Ram I'm pretty sure he would have taken the worst of it. It would have pissed me off though cause those things do massive damage to vehicles. Sorry you had to go through that, and with a brand new car, no less. Good thing you are alright. IF you had hit with the front of your car it could of rolled up through the windshield.

So, LB, the real question is, after you pulled over and the deer was laying there dead, how many rednecks asked you if they could have it?
I'm not sure if it died or not. Probably not because those SOB's never die! At least not the ones that we've hit. He ran off. There was one guy who came back to the scene and told me he saw it happen. He was about 40 yards behind me. He was the one who told me it was a massive buck. I didn't get a good look at it because it happened so fast and I closed my eyes when he hit.

A neighbor who's driveway I pulled into and the other guy went looking for it, but didn't find anything. They were pretty "country", but they weren't what I'd call rednecks. They told me they hunted in that area and yeah, they seemed pretty psyched about finding it.

I had zero reaction time. I just remember saying, "Oh God no!!!!" Then I closed my eyes. It was a good thing too because when that glass went flying, it went all over me and I got a good bit in my mouth. That was because of all the girlie screaming I was doing. I'd hate to think about all that glass getting in my eyes too.

I didn't special order it. I found it on the lot. I love that friggin car. I called it my "Redskins car". Burgundy with a gold stripe. :(

You want to know what really pisses me off about the whole thing? Yesterday was the first time I've left work late in a long time. If I had left on time this wouldn't have happened. Why did I leave work late you ask? I was hanging out around our booking area arguing with the shift sergeant who is... a cowboys fan.

That thing didn't f'ing die? Holy shit. It did all that damage and it's still breathing... amazing. Fucking deer's name must be Roethlisberger.

Sorry to hear about it LB...

SS, 7th grade, were you still in Potomac? I bet those deer own your old house by now, and their kids get on that same school bus...

I was driving to work in my beat up 01 Civic, with a headlamp out. Ahead, I see the first run go back, so I slowed down knowing damn well these things travel in packs. Sure enough, the 2nd one jumps out and I smack it with the right front part of the bumper. The deer kinda goes sideways for a second, then hits the ground running. No damage, but the headlamp that had been out for several weeks came back on and worked for several more weeks before burning out again.

Oh, and yes...Deer is good eatin'.
