skinsguy 11-11-2007, 07:17 PM Portis wasn't a huge blow as Betts came on nicely. The QB situation had Gibbs all over it as he refused to put JC in to salvage the season. Defense collapsed as it was on the field for most of the game due to a horrid passing attack due to MB starting as a result of Gibbs obstinance.
The loss of Clinton Portis last year WAS a huge blow for us. Don't be stupid. I realize Betts had a good year last year, but he is NOT the pass blocker that Clinton Portis is. The team had to learn a new offense last year and putting Jason Campbell in earlier in the season wouldn't have been beneficial for us.
Anyways, why are you even arguing about last season? It's a moot point. Besides, I could argue the season before that.
GridIron26 11-11-2007, 07:21 PM You got it wrong!! It's time for Gregg Williams to step down he's the most over rated Defensive Co-ordinator.
Overrated?? I don't think so, in fact if it wasn't for him we would have losing season..
skinsguy 11-11-2007, 07:22 PM well it could if its too early, like in the third. then forcing you to decide in the fourth how to deal with the remaining time with 2 time outs.
or how about when we didnt have any timeouts to challenge the CAUGHT ball by mccardell i believe. i understand that had nothing to do with clock management, but the first part does.
It wouldn't have been reversed anyway, so that's a moot point. Why are you not going to call time out on a play that isn't going to work? Since Saunders's offense does not audible, you have to call timeout. It happens with every team. That has nothing to do with clock management. In fact the Redskins offense today was almost in a no huddle for much of the game anyway, so complaining about clock management is illogical.
chrisl4064 11-11-2007, 07:26 PM im not complaining, i was just trying to point out how using timeouts early could effect clock management towards the end of a game

Speaking of which, I liked the no huddle or sugar huddle they ran most of the time. I think JC sometimes overthinks and this helps him calm down and just play. Of course, it did leave plenty of clock at the end of the game....

I agree. Campbell seems to get into a better rhythm when he's in hurry up mode. I'm hoping this is something the offense will start doing more of, because it seemed to wear the Eagles defense down and opened up our running game as well.
hurrykaine 11-11-2007, 07:40 PM Exactly...let's look at this objectively. We lost Thomas / Jansen / Rogers and Moss for most games, and Taylor here lately...all of whom are pro bowl caliber players. We've lost more than that, but those are HUGE losses that are extremely difficult to overcome.
I don't like the way is conservative most of the time, but he's gotten better and he is in no way the problem here...he's done a good job with what he's had to work with.
Rogers is a pro-bowl caliber player? Really? Jansen too? Maybe 4-5 years ago.
Injuries are an excuse. The O-line manned up today and runs to the right side of the line was working just fine with Fabini and Wade playing. What about Thrash playing a gem of a game with Moss out? No injury excuses for blowing this one. We put ourselves in a positon to win and self destructed - not because of injury, but because of dumb penalties, poor execution, and bad playcalls in the 4th quarter.

No, but Marcus Washington and Sean Taylor are Pro Bowlers and losing Rogers for the season certainly didn't help. Injuries are not an excuse, they are one of the reasons why slightly below average and slighty above average teams win or lose games. We are a pretty good team when healthy, and an average team when riddled with injuries. Great teams can overcome significant injuries, but (as we all probably agree) we are not a great team.
To ignore injuries to Washington, Taylor, Rogers, Moss, Jansen, Thomas (3 of whom are Pro Bowlers) is a little unreasonable IMO.

IMO, this game was winnable despite the aforementioned injuries.
I'm personally thrilled that we are currently 5-4, btw. However, when Gibbs 2.0 leaves after 3 pi$$ poor seasons and one playoff appearance, what will your assessment be?
Aw, he was unlucky cuz our star players kept getting injured season after season?
Gibbs came here to restore us to respectability and get us back to winning. If we don't make the playoffs this year, he will have failed and shouldn't be allowed to use injuries as an excuse.
Darrell_Green_28 11-11-2007, 08:09 PM LOL...yes the customary "Gibbs must go" thread after a loss. I'm with you dude - he should've gone at the end of last year.
The old man sucks, period. He'll step down at the end of the season. Saunders and Greg Williams stink too - neither would make a good head coach. Williams' scheme can't stop a 3rd and 21? All this money invested in big name coaches, and not one credible successor to Gibbs - unbelievable!
we did stop them on 3rd and 21 its just on 4th and less than 1 we didnt.
