Here is another link relating to the Office. Doesn't look good. We will begin to see a cascade of shows going on indefinite hiatus.
Ok stop now, I'm feeling sick :(

dblanch, i apologize. i had the stereotype of greedy and selfish. but now it seems like the big boys really aren't playing fair. it does seem like there is more then enough money to go around for everyone. how long was the contract that just expired(years)? and from i have seen so far, it seems like you guys are getting the support from most of the actors.
Absolutely no worries, mate. A lot of folks are just now discovering the basic issues relating to the strike but you will find that the writers have most of the support. Here is a link that may answer your questions about the recently expired contract: Sign Up (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/business/la-et-strike29oct29,1,6434413.story?coll%20=la-headlines-business-enter&ctrack=2&cset=true)
But let us not forget the most meaningful thing here...

Does this mean that they will start playing re-runs of the nightly new cast?

I don't think so. One would hope that the nightly news writers are journalist and not entertainment writers who are guild memebers.

Yea, one would hope but after watching the news one would wonder.

I agree...makes you really wonder.
While on the subject this whole Keith Olbermann v.s. Bill O'Reilly rating spitting match is starting to really piss me off. When you dedicate 5 min of your "news" broadcast to who has better ratings, whose network is sinking and what was said about your show by someone else it's really time to reevaluate your status as a news show.
Anywho, thankfully I can and do get most of my news from online sources.
