^ I guess because ST is a defender and if the Jets had tried to pull a fake FG play, I'd rather have Taylor back there to stop it instead of a WR.

Taylor is great at running back fumbles and picks, he's done it many times before and he nearly busted this play open for a TD...if he had only held onto the ball.

Yeah I had no problem with ST being back there, he's shown in the past that he's dangerous with the ball.

Makes sense to me.

What's funny is right around the same time, Cromartie (sp?) for the bolts ran a similar kick back 109 (!!) yards for a score. Was the day for it, I guess.

The conservative play calling thing was just fine against the Jets--they have proven all year they cannot stop the run--but the big thing is RED ZONE offense. Just one TD on those FGs and we're home without OT, most likely. Got to get that straight. We moved the ball up and down the field, but couldn't score but one TD. That's why this game went to overtime, even with the first-play kickoff return.

Props to coaching staff. Gutsy call, if this isn't recovered you're right, the Jets put this one away and we've lost a critical "must win" if we are to get into the playoffs.

Considering this coaching staff, the decision for an onsides kick was nothing short of astounding.

Gibbs takes that kind of gamble maybe once every 3 seasons or so.

Yeah. They did it against G.B in 2004 and were unsuceesful which will put you off of it. They did it to the Giants in 1985 the night Theismann broke his leg. The only other one I can think of was Norv in 2000 against the Rams. A nice call by special teams coach Lecharls McDaniel against the then defending SB champs. Scott Betley? maybe?

Also with Taylor on the long FG: He has a vertical leap of like 39 inches, so he could actually block a FG that would otherwise be good - Ralph Sampson style. This is a play I have long hoped to see.

I thought the play was very gutsy. But if you listen to the way danny smith worked on it and schemed it all week. I really don't see it as gutsy, but great coaching and execution. Good on our guys for doing thier jobs. HAIL!!

Good on our guys for doing thier jobs. HAIL!!That's pretty awesome that Smith reviewed every Jets kickoff this season and uncovered the tendency of a single Jet to cheat back on kickoffs. Chalk this call up to outstanding coaching, and credit the players for outstanding execution.

I agree. Most people are complaining about a conservative game plan but we were moving the ball just fine it was in the red zone we could not get the TD's.

Hell of a call if you ask me, very ballsy call in fact.

At that point in the game we were down 17-6 with about 5 minutes to go in the first half. If we don't recover the Jets are in prime field position and could have put the game away with a TD. Instead it only leads to 3 points, but in the grand scheme of the game it was a big play and a gutsy call. For all the criticism the team takes for not being aggressive enough, let's at least give some props for this one.

i agree. a lot of onsides in the past few wks across the nfl and college. VT tried and succeeded in getting one after a FG. i believe NO got one too.

great call by Gibbs, I wish he would take more chances on offense with JC. It would give life to this predictable offense. It would fire this team up if we started taking chances and getting these playmakers involved.
