we need a GM in a bad way. Sunday was proof of that. That a hugh wakeup call i hope.
Gibbs does not have a great eye for talent. Hell of a coach but cant pick talent,

GM or no GM, someone needs to have the position of looking out for the long-term well being of the franchise. Gibbs is in the position of having to "win now" every season so he isn't truly in a position to evaluate talent for the long-term, hence some bad FA moves.
Cerrato should be doing this, but he has done a poor job since he has been here and Snyder needs to put his personal relationship with him aside and let him go. Move Gibbs into the Front Office and off the field. Before Free-Agency, Gibbs, Bobby Bethard and JKC built a fantastic team. In NASCAR, Gibbs was successful running the racing organization by building strong teams, and IMO he would be a great "GM" once the coaching duties (win now) were not his responsibility.

Hell of a coach but cant pick talent,It was Gibbs who said that Desmond Howard had "no holes" in his game the day we traded 2 first round picks to move up and draft him. If Gibbs 2.0 had a GM handling the draft, I seriously doubt that we would have tossed away draft picks in questionable trades for Lloyd and Duckett, who both cost a 3rd AND a 4th.

Here's a question - if we bring in a GM what exactly does Joe Gibbs do? If
Greg Williams runs the defense and Al Saunders runs the offense and with all the other experienced coaches on hand wouldn't Dan Synder be throwing away $5 million a year on Gibb's salary if a GM is brought in? I would rather have Synder lower parking fees and concessions at games than pay Gibbs $5 million a year to be "president" of the team.

This thread reminds of the Cutler vs. Campbell thread. Has there been any sign we'll hire a GM? If Gibbs is around we certainly won't. Is there any reason AJ Smith is leaving San Diego? They're coming on big time right now. Maybe their talent is starting to gel with Norv. If Gibbs leaves I'd like to see Cowher come in and bring Floyd Reese as a GM.

I think Cowher would be good for this team. The guys need that hard-nosed coach to force them to play harder, and try to gain the extra yards...but until something comes out that's official that's all I'm saying on the subject.

This is the guy that got a 14-2 coach fired? The guy that hired Norval?

Thanks but no. A GM maybe - Smith? No thanks.

That's what I'm still trying to figure out. I'll ask again, does anyone know if there is a real chance that Smith could be leaving or is this just wishful thinking?

Matty - reread the original post. Poster says he thinks AJ Smith will leave...there is no proof in the pudding. And, why would he leave after firing Marty as he did. No one else in the league will hire him until he reproves himself.

Do we need a GM? To an extent, yes. Someone strictly devoted to player scouting and analysis. After this year, it could very well be Gibbs, IF he steps down as head coach, he could remain as Club President and resume that role solely. It's very rare that a Head Coach/GM works out...

Yeah I see that, but that coupled with the thread title makes it seem like Smith is likely to leave, so unless we have some solid info I think the title is a little misleading.
