Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?

Hate to bring this thread up...again. But it looks like Griff is hurt again, may not play. Seems like he's nursing some injury more than he's in the lineup.

I think he's on the bubble next year.

I would be shocked if Skins actually release him - even tho I expect Skins to find a replacement for Griffin and use Griffin as back-up..

He'd be an awfully pricey backup. He'd have to pull the classic Redskins-veteran-contract-restructure-move in the offseason if that was to be the case. I agree that he's definitely on the bubble. Too injury prone. When he's 100% he's dominant. Problem is it's been a few years since he's been close to full speed injury-wise.

Per NFL.com Griff has 19 tackles through 6 games, that puts him on a pretty healthy pace of 50 or so for the season. I do agree he could be on his last legs with the Redskins due to his age and contract, and the fact we appear to have found some keepers in Golston and Montgomery.

I have to admit, I never thought we'd be secure in the run stopping department with Griff and Monte. But they've made a liar out me. Still, I'd like to see one more young stud at DT waiting in the wings once Griffin bows out.

At some point in the next two years, we should add some more youth at the DT position, but we can survive another year or two with Griffin.

Yeah, I agree. If it was up to me, I'd say get a DE opposite Carter, or maybe a corner.

But then, we have needs on offense too -- O-lineman, wideout.

I dunno. Griff is our best all-around d-lineman. He can play the pass or the run. Moreover, he's getting pressure up the middle that is preventing QBs from stepping up to avoid Andre Carter's outside pressure. I have to think that Griffin's play is part of the reason why Carter is having success. Moreover, we've been stopping the run and getting decent (but not excellent) pressure with our front four and Griff is still the biggest part of that unit IMO.

On an unrelated note, is it just me or does Andre Carter look like he's added even more muscle? He just looks bigger this year.
Hey, I think that Griffin has put very little, to no pressure and has not collapsed the middle. I think that is the part of his game that has gotten weak. He is no longer the pass rusher he used to be. I think Carter would have a couple more sacks, if he was collapsing the pocket the way he used to.

I do agree to a point here on Griff. I don't feel like he is getting that much pressure up the middle to help our D ends get some sacks or really good pressure. That being said I think that Griff is doing an amazing job on run support. He is occupying blockers and making the running backs bounce to the outside where our very fast and very efficient linebackers are there to bottle them up. Griff might not be having a great season stat wise, but he is helping.
