Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?

AC is a freak, I swear I could work out 24/7 for a year and not looking anything like that. The man has some great genes in the muscle category, looks like he was carved out of stone.

The only measuring stick I have for Griffin is that he hasn't been as dominant on the interior this season as Montgomery has been. I hope and feel that this is because Montgomery has been so good, but it's also possibly due to Griffin falling off the face of the earth. The former is far more likely.

At age 30, he's definately a step slower, but defensive linemen tend to decline slower than most positions after the age of 30 (see: Sapp, Warren), so I think his immediate future as a contributor to this team is safe.

He could become a cap casulty in the future if we feel we can replace him cheaper.

I'm going to open a new thread for this when the article comes out, but I'd thought I would mention this here:

Due in part to poor defensive performances from Pittsburgh and Tennessee, the Redskins rank No. 1 in Football Outsiders' defensive DVOA through the first 7 weeks.

This of course means that this week's game will feature the No. 1 offense vs. the No. 1 defense. Quite a turn around from last season for both these units, though the Redskins far moreso than the Pats.

EDIT: The Pats actually slipped behind the Colts in offense. Makes sense, since Manning just put a 29 spot up on Jacksonville, and the Colts clearly have the best running game in the NFL. So...No. 1 D vs. No. 1a offense. I love these kinds of games.

Per NFL.com Griff has 19 tackles through 6 games, that puts him on a pretty healthy pace of 50 or so for the season. I do agree he could be on his last legs with the Redskins due to his age and contract, and the fact we appear to have found some keepers in Golston and Montgomery.

Grif and Montgomery occupying blockers at the line of scrimmage has allowed our LBs to fly to the ball without having to shed blockers. I am surprised at how well the DL has played as a unit. Gotta give Greg Blache credit for improving that part of the D with essentially the same cast as last year.
Very good points and most people over look this as the reason LB's can have such great stats.

There has been no bigger reason for the defensive turnaround than the play of the defensive line. They have been outstanding.

Their weaknesses are being masked potentially by the scheme, but more likely by the overall talent they are playing with. We aren't playing with a weak link on this defense. Carlos Rogers has had a GREAT 3 game stretch. Landry doesn't really look like a rookie at all.

A smart offensive line and running scheme COULD exploit some weaknesses in the DL. Carter STILL takes himself out of a lot of plays. Daniels is playing well, but rarely are teams testing him. No one seems to run to our defensive left.

It's not like our defensive line is invincible. However, since no one seems to know how to attack it, offenses spend most of their time getting attacked.

Eventually, teams will figure this group out, but if the offensive line can get healthy before then, it won't matter if teams figure out they can run the ball on us.

Expect New England to attack with the ground game early, but to get away from it before they figure anything out. Teams with a lot to lose tend to go back to what they are good at real quick even if they feel they have something when it isn't producing immediate results.

Good thing they won't be able to throw on us.

You sound like a dallas fan
Cornelius was playing sunday while his wife was having his baby
15 tackles 4 assists and 2 sacksdoes not seem to lousy playing to me

QUOTE=12thMan;368151]I've been wondering about Griffin for some time now. Not to be reaching or just trying to start another thread, but is it me or is it that he's just not that much of a force in the middle any longer? No, I'm suggesting the Griffin is horrible, but he's not making his presence known in the middle it seems.

He's probably still regarded as our most steady defensive lineman, but I often feel like teams tend exploit us up the middle or to the left side of their line.

Thoughts?[/QUOTE]

im just gonna say im very impressed with how well the D-line has played all year. i was sure the line would be the main problem for us this year and apparently i was wrong. so big ups to all the dudes in the front 4 for proving me wrong.

I Believe they have done more with the four man front than they did last year with so-called blitzes that got them nowhere but pass completions against them.

This might be a case of his not being called a measure of his efficiency.

Of course, we all do get old (see: my wife), and at some point we need to be put out to pasture.

Hate to bring this thread up...again. But it looks like Griff is hurt again, may not play. Seems like he's nursing some injury more than he's in the lineup.

I think he's on the bubble next year.
