But i think the rationale for the criticism on that pick is that we could have also gone for a D-linemen (Shawne Merriman or Demarcus Ware or Erasmus James) and considering we had already invested a pick on the secondary in the previous year (Sean Taylor), there were more pressing needs. Then again, hindsight is 20-20 and at least we got JC in that draft
The trippy thing is- If the redskins didn't do their scouting for Carlos Rogers at Auburn, then they might not have drafted Jason Campbell. From what I read, Rogers highly recommended looking at Campbell. When the redskins drafted Campbell, there was a lot criticism for the decision. I think it goes to show you that you do what you think is right and forget about all the negative judgments.

I still think Rogers gets some bad press amongst the fans and he has been invovled in I think 2 big plays that have lead to losses but that is it all season... 2 plays both of which were missed tackles essentially (Burress and the in GB) but in GB it was Rocky who was beaten in coverage and against Burress there were three other guys who had a shot at stopping him and missed.....
I am sick of "oh we should have picked Merrimen" ....yep possibly he is the stud of that draft but we were in need of a smart middle linebacker with the loss of Pierce and CB with Smoot leaving ...not an OLB/DE who would be a 3rd down pass rush speciallist in a 4-3 system.... would you be happy with Harris as he was in 2004 and the fragile Springs and no youth movement at all... Remember CBs were hot property in 2005 getting massive contracts and again this last season we have seen Clements getting QB money 80 mil ...also remember CBs were hot in 2005 draft 3 sure fire hits....Merriman would be a short reach and a luxary we would have had to address CB at some point , which then asks the question who would you do without if you think you have to use a 1st round pick somewhere on a CB to have a decent chance of getting a good No1 guy .... Campbell? Rocky? Landry?
A GM can ruin teams as well as make them ( See A J Smith - Chargers 2007 re : Hiring Norv Turner) . I think it is telling that the teams we most resemble in terms of front office set up are the Patriots and the Eagles.
People seem to think a GM is the magic bullet but I would rather see where the Gibbs train will take us...

I think Rogers may be an okay player, but at this point he was not worth the high draft pick. It's not so much about the mistakes he has made, because everyone makes them - it's the lack of big plays that he has (not) made.
He may become a play-maker, but he just needs to step up his game. I don't know if he has put in extra work outside of practice because it would definitely help.

the only major mistakes we made recently in the draft were taylor jacobs and carlos rogers.....now only if we had kept more picks....all our best players were acquired in the draft

The player trades for draft picks have disappointed (Lloyd, Duckett .. but Kendall was a GREAT move).
Most of the picks given away were to move up in the draft (Cambell, Cooley, Macintosh). While I would prefer the FO be patient and value pick from their spot, you can't praise the FO for these picks AND kill them for trading away the future picks.

This is my problem with a lot of these analysts who still talk about the Skins spending on big free agents. In general, the Skins have made some brilliant moves that are looking better and better each year.

Comparing our #1 corner (basing this on playing time) to a dude that's been cut twice in his first 4 years is a bit harsh.
Guess we disagree about Rogers. While I don't think he's a great corner, he's quite good & this year we're seeing that. even the plaxico td, he was in position to make that play but just missed it. Didn't see Roy Williams or Calvin Johnson burn him.

This is my problem with a lot of these analysts who still talk about the Skins spending on big free agents. In general, the Skins have made some brilliant moves that are looking better and better each year. The Skins were very prudent last offseason in free agency compared to years past. Fletcher was the biggest signing, and even he was moderately priced. A great trend over the past year has been re-signing our own (Cooley, Sellers, Betts). That trend must continue with Taylor.
