SD already has fine posession recievers similar to Caldwell and McCardell. Chambers gives them the deep element that they have lacked for years. He caught 11 TDs in 2005 with Gus Frerotte as his QB. Imagine the possibilities with Rivers at QB and teams scheming to stop LT and Gates first. This was a good trade that fills a definite hole for SD's offense.I guess he brings some athleticism to a team that was sorely lacking it, but I don't understand why team's chase bad players when they could get good ones for the same price. I'm sure that Devery Henderson could be had from the Saints for a third round pick. Or Bobby Engram for Seattle. Both can catch the ball when you need them to.
Chambers...not so much.

Chambers is a bad receiver, although his year hasn't been nearly as bad as Moss'.
It'll be interesting to see what SD gave up, if it was anything more than a bag of salt, Miami probably stole AJ Smith's wallet also.
I mean, we got Reche Caldwell and Keenan McCardell for nothing, and they are both better players (albiet less feared) than Chambers.
I thought it was a 2nd rounder for Chambers

Chambers...not so much.Devery Henderson can stretch a field, but what has he EVER done in the NFL. He has 7 dropped passes this year (and only 8 receptions), and that's a big reason why David Patton is seeing more time in NO. Bobby Engram is just another possession receiver. Chambers is a much better fit than either for SD, especially since he knows the offense already.

I agree totally! He should fit right in.

I disagree with the opinion that he's a bad receiver. I think Chambers is a legit No. 1 WR in the league. Against our pass defense, which I think is one of the best in the league, he had over 100 yards. The first three weeks he averaged over 100 per game. Just 2 years ago he had 11 tds and well over 1,000 for the season. The guy may have attitude problems, but he has real skills too. He is WAY above Caldwell and McCardell, at this stage of his career, in talent.

I'd argue that Chambers is a good WR. Don't know why Tripp thinks he isn't.

Chambers is a guy who was never able to take that next step and become a truly elite receiver, but always had the talent to do it. He's been in a bad situation up until now. I think this will be a succesful fit for both teams.
But there's one thing in SD that people aren't talking about enough IMO and that's the quarterback. He's TERRIBLE. Were we too quick to crown him as a legit NFL starter?

Never mind the Cam connection, wasn't Norv Chambers' offensive coordinator a few years ago?

Chambers has shown flashes, but to me he's the dreaded "P" word- potential. Tons of it with not a ton of production. But he's never had much of a QB, and as SS pointed out, he's worked with Norv before and I believe had his best season under him. He could be a good fit with SD. Line him up alongside Vincent Jackson, throw in Gates and you've got some big weapons...
