BigSKINBauer 10-05-2007, 05:31 PM HUGE HUGE game. Not that i am giving the division to Dallas but we obviously are thinking wildcard right now. Detroit is a huge wildcard competitor. Now so are teams like arizona and carolina but i would like a tie breaker over the lions if it comes to that.
Furthermore, 2-2 and 3-1 are big differences. But it is 4 weeks in so who knows what the hell is going to happen.

You might be thinking wild card. I'm thinking win the damn division!
It's aweful early for anyone to count us as a wildcard. I could care less about the pukes, the wheels could very well fall off the cart!
This is a BIG week and we will respond as such!
GusFrerotte 10-05-2007, 09:38 PM Speaking of Fedex being nuts, Aikman made a good point about RFK & how Fedex doesn't give us the advantage RFK did.
Did you look at the seats at the start of the 2nd half last week? There are so many empty seats. It looks like everyone is in the bathroom or concessions. That really has to change. Teams need to come out in the 2nd half & feel the noise of the fans right off the bat.
I've only been to fedex once & it was crazy loud - Dallas game in 05. But from what I can tell from watching on tv, that game was an exception. Sure, it gets a little loud at times, but it usually doesn't sound the way rfk used to, or the way some stadiums do all the time.
Same thing with the Big House in Ann Arbor, a shitload of folks and they are rather complacent( not very loud) since they are the winningest program of all time. With Fedex it is just huge and the jacked up ticket prices have helped to keep your more rabid fans at home while corporate folks or more wealthy casual fans have taken over. You can see that at a lot of the pro sports here in Detroit. Most rabid sports fans are blue collar to lower white collar folks who can't justify spending a paycheck or more to show the family a good time. I think if you go to more pro venues, regardless of the sport you will see the same dynamic. RFK was small and the acoustics amplified the sound more. Also with the more rabid fans you could get that place literally rocking. Fedex is just too big and the fan base is not as rabid.
GusFrerotte 10-05-2007, 09:44 PM I think that's why everyone was so pissed about losing to the Giants. Honestly, we'll get another shot at that one. And the expectation should be to split East games. This game could be a deal breaker.
I get the feeling FedX is going to be nuts!
Fedex should be nuts every home game!!!!!! Also as a Detroiter and with the Lions being a lesser fav team of mine from the Skins a win is nice, but not huge. Thing is the Lions are up one week down the next, this is a pattern that goes way back, even before the Millen era. They can play like SB contenders and win then lay an egg the next week. Just look at them vs the Eagles then the Bears. It might be time for them to lay another egg on Detroit fans. To me the real test will be via GB and TB and how well we play them. Detroit is all offense and not much D so a victory really doesn't mean that we are playoff bound, just means we exposed a one dimensional team. We should take this game, but the Giants game has me wondering about our coaching staff. Lions put up 34 pts against the Bears in the 4th quarter, we can't afford another sit on our asses second half or even a quarter. We need to score a lot!!
DCborn 10-05-2007, 09:52 PM I don't know about a playoff vibe this early in the season, but one thing is for sure, we will find out about the abilities of our secondary.
I agree , maybe not PLAYOFF issue but, a must win from a morale and acessment point of view.

Going 2-2 isn't a killer, but I doubt we are going to lose this one. The Lions are all O very little D, but their D is better than our D at takeaways it seems. Still like I stated above a win is very nice of course, but don't automatically think playoffs after a Skins victory. Our games against the Bays and NE will be good measures at how well of a team we really are. Detroit is only one sack away from tanking guys. Kitna is getting killed back there. One bad landing off of a sack or a Joey T type thing and the Lions are toast. If Kitna survives to week 10 it will be a miracle. Detroit is a one trick pony that will be exposed once the triggerman is taken out.
SouperMeister 10-05-2007, 11:33 PM I've posted this comment several times, but it bears repeating...there's no place like RFK. Unbelievable magic. If someone did a search, Gibbs didn't lose many games RFK.I've seen many games at both RFK and FedEx, and I believe that the architecture at RFK with its curved roof around the edge of the stadium allowed the sound to reverberate back. FedEx is completely open at the top, and no matter the number of fans, much of the noise is lost. I left games at RFK with my ears ringing for a day or two. Can't say that ever happened to me at FedEx, even after the Giants game on Xmas Eve 2005 that was essentially a playoff atmosphere.
As for this week's game against Detroit, it carries huge tiebreaker ramifications for a wild card. Winning conference games at home against other contenders is a must if the Skins are serious about playing in January.

Good post. I think we're all agreed this could be a breakout game.
dmek25 10-06-2007, 07:09 AM i really hate saying game #4 on the schedule is a must win. with that out of the way, teams that are successful, and make playoff runs, are the teams that win the games that they are supposed to. this is a game that the skins are supposed to. 3-1 is alot sweeter then 2-2. might as well start the playoff push now
vaoutlaws2006 10-06-2007, 08:39 AM this is one we are suppose to win. Good teams beat the teams they are suppose to beat and we are suppose to win this one. I dont know about must win but i'd have to say its pretty close to being that. Lets not talk about being good....lets be about being good which starts with beating who you are suppose to beat.
