12thMan 10-01-2007, 09:51 AM I don't know about Reid--he's got a great record. He hasn't won the big one. The TO implosion really hurt them, and they had serious injury problems. But when Garcia was in there (and in other years, people like Jay Feely!) the team still won. Some of it's defense, but lots of it was Reid's offense.
And I just don't buy that McNabb is over-rated. When he was healthy, he could beat you with his legs or his arm. It's true that he's a streak passer, and that can hurt his numbers, but when he's on, he can be unstoppable. Is he Manning? Brady? No, but he's up there. Whatever. I'm happy to see the iggles implode, but I don't buy the argument about McNabb, and especially about Reid.
And trust me, in Philly there are plenty of Journalists ragging on the iggles. But year after year they make the playoffs, got to 3 NFC Champ games and one SB. Wasted McNabb's best years? Short of winning the SB (which I agree is vital, but it's not the only way to evaluate things), how else did they waste those years?
PS I really do hate the iggles, but this is exactly the argument my philly friends make to me--McNabb sucks, Reid sucks, etc. No, you philly fans suck! Santa Claus Rules!
I agree with you, JW. McNabb has consistently been a top tier quarterback for the bulk of his career. Like you said, he's no Peyton or Brady, but he's usually breathing right down their necks. And as far as him being effective when he has weapons, well isn't that true of any quarterback. And to be honest, save T.O., what top flight receiver has McNabb played with anyway? You'd probably struggle to name more than two.
SC Skins Fan 10-01-2007, 10:08 AM Last week Gibbs and Co dropped the ball against the G-Men. Giants are trash and the Eagles are just raw sewage IMO.
The Eagles looked bad, but I don't think you can say the Giants are trash. Their D has come to play the past two weeks and I thought even in the first half against the Redskins they looked very active. I'd wait to see how they do next week before you go burying them.
TheBigD 10-01-2007, 10:22 AM Man, did anyone catch the look on Reid's face when McNabb fumbled and was recovered by the Giants for a touchdown. He was speechless and had the look of "my sons are in jail and/or doing drugs, I am as fat as walrus, I got 3 key players hurt and my team is getting thumped by the Giants" on his face. For 2 or 3 seconds I did feel bad for the guy.

Nice....you brought a smile to my face on Monday morning. No easy feat.
firstdown 10-01-2007, 11:26 AM I all honesty I think McNabb has been rather over-rated throughout his career. I think for the most part you can look at his stats and see that he is a good QB but not the great QB that so many us to believe. BUT I have felt he was good enough to be a top 10 QB and could lead a SB winner with the right components. He has never had that. I have also felt for a while, admittedly without much hard evidence, that Reid is big time over-rated. His offense is one dimensional and he seems completely out of touch in terms of leading his team. I think every time I watch them I realize how much they wasted McNabb's prime and how they should have won at least one SB by now. I blame Reid for it all. Seriously can anyone say that they haven't screwed McNabb's prime years up? They gave him no weapons and then they proceeded to ask him to throw the ball 65% of the time without those weapons. They finally get someone who can play, Westbrook, by accident almost but he is hurt all the time. Why is this not a story? Where are all the journalists killing this organization?
I have heard it said many times but the facts are they have still found away to make it into the playoffs. Is it Reids fault that they have not gone out and picked up some help for MvNabb or an owner who is too cheap.

He has brought in big dollar free agents (Kearse, Owens) when advised to do so by Reid and Banner.

:D glad I can help.

I have a hard time buying that after so many NFC championships and a Super Bowl appearance.
SouperMeister 10-01-2007, 12:39 PM I have a hard time buying that after so many NFC championships and a Super Bowl appearance.I went to school in Philly, and follow them closely as my most hated rival since I have so many friends from up there (yes, I hate the Eagles more than Dallas). Ask any Philly fan who makes their personnel decisions, and two names are always mentioned - Reid and Banner. Banner plays a larger role in cap management, Reid has final say in personnel decisions, and Lurie signs the checks.
P.S. The same formula has worked well in NE with Belichick/Pioli making personnel decisions, and Robert Kraft remaining hands off, signing checks.
GTripp0012 10-01-2007, 01:40 PM I would agree with your statements. McNabb is a very good QB when healthy and when he has weapons. Right now he has neither. I think perhaps the organization feels like they don't need to spend alot of $ on wr's. I know they have tried the draft and failed w/ Freddie Mitchell and Reggie Brown. They tried the FA route w/ TO and they got burned. So now they bring in 2nd tier guys like Stallworth and Curtis. Guys like that are serviceable but not true #1 NFL wr's.THAT is what McNabb looks like with no weapons. Not this excuse crap we make for him week in and week out.
This game should show us all exactly how much help he DOES get on a regular basis. Probably more than any other QB in the league.
And they were all injured, thus...that.
