if we go 3-0, then we only have to go 6-7 the rest of the way out to make the playoffs...clearly 6-7 is not something to aspire to achieve, however its the likely reality of the situation in the NFC.

Just a couple of cautionary examples:

2003 - Redskins started 2-0 and wound up 5-11.

1996 - Redskins started 7-1 and wound up 9-7 just missing the playoffs.

I think this team is better than those, certainly better coaching, but my point is that we have along way to go.

On the flip side, here's a good omen. Gibbs' record during the last 5 games of the season on odd number years is something sick number like 31-4. So at least, based on history, we're poised to finish strong. So a strong start is key

But, of course, one game at a time.

I understand the importance of being level headed about most things in life. But no one on this board has any direct impact whatsoever on how this team plays on Sunday. So I really don't get the whole "let's just focus on the Giants" theme. Great idea for the players, doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense for fans.

Stats are a good indicator of what a fan can hope for. There's a reason that million dollar decisions are made every day based on little more than statistics. So I don't agree with the notion of "stats don't mean anything." If someone can look back at the past 10 years and say that 70% of the teams that start the season with 2 wins go on to the playoffs, that's a good thing. It's not a guarantee of success, it's a positive indicator. Period.

If a few people here want to talk about playoffs after only 12.5% of the regular season, I don't see a problem with it so long as there is not 5 different threads cluttering up the board. Yes, the discussion is premature right now, but I think that as fans of a team that hasn't been all that great recently we're entitled to a little dreaming after a big win over the defending div. champs.

off the soap box now...

While I think we have a lot to worry about before we worry about playoffs, I heard an interesting stat from Gil Brandt on NFL radio. First he said going 0-2 is much more significant than going 2-0 as far as not making / making the playoffs. He also said that since the re-alignment more 1-1 teams make the playoffs as 2-0. Honestly, it comes down to us taking care of business down the stretch. Looking at our schedule, if we play up to our talent we'll make the playoffs, same as every other year.

The Redskins do have a lot to worry about before the playoffs. My point is the fan's don't. It just seemed like some here wanted to look at the positive start and say, "look where this could lead..." and others wanted them to stop the discussion as if to say it had any impact on the Redskins' season whatsoever. I just find it strange when fans act as if their mindset, focus or mood has an effect/correlation to the team's mindset, focus and mood. I'm more than happy to let every fan start shopping for superbowl tickets this week as long as the actual team keeps its collective head straight.

Joe Gibbs percentage of making the playoffs after a 2-0 start is 100%.

Hopefully they can keep that streak alive this season. Bring on the G-men!

Well when we went to the playoffs in 05, we started out 2-0. But still its long season and anything can happen. We should focus on the Giants before we start thinking playoffs.

Am I really the first person on this thread to point out that we started '05 at 3-0? Apologies if I missed someone's reference.
