Dlyne8r 09-10-2007, 01:53 PM They both looked awful on defense. I thought our zone coverage was bad. So much for Wade Phillips freeing them up to play the way they're capable.
If you are speaking of the 'Skins zone coverage, you are absolutely correct. Man, they gave "seam" in zone coverage a whole new definition, and it wasn't good. Miami really tested Smoot as it seemed that they threw in his direction 98% of their passing plays.
sandtrapjack 09-10-2007, 04:26 PM I was disgusted with the Dallas Defense last night. And then a friend of mine reminded me of something. I'll bet you all will remember it:
Dallas defense overpowered in 35-16 loss
By TIM COWLISHAW / The Dallas Morning News
WASHINGTON – The Cowboys were hoping to turn back the clock a year, to repeat the opening-night success they had enjoyed against Washington. That victory had set the stage for a Super Bowl season.
Instead, the Cowboys turned the clock back too far.
For the first time since 1989, when the Cowboys endured a 1-15 nightmare of a season, Dallas' defense gave up five touchdowns. One came at the close of a back-breaking 99-yard drive in the third quarter as Washington dominated Dallas, 35-16, before 56,345 fans at RFK Stadium.
The date here was Sept 7, 1993 and the Redskins whooped our ass.
But it was also the year Dallas went 12-4 and won thier second consecutive Super Bowl title.
Now granted this is not the Cowboys of the 90's. But after week one I am certainly not painting a picture of doom and gloom for the remaining 15 games.
TheMalcolmConnection 09-10-2007, 04:33 PM Yeah, I wouldn't say doom and gloom, but MAN those injuries are rough. Have you read what the Cowboys are going to do with Ferguson out? That changes the whole defensive scheme.

Completely different situation. Emmit was holding out then, I think. Dallas knew they were going to be good. They were defending Super Bowl Champs. In short the jury was not still out on that team the way it is on this one. I know one thing. If I'm playing the Cowboys, I'm going after Jaques Reeeves all day long. I have a friend who is an expert on the Broncos and he keeps telling me that Wade Phillips will be the best thing that ever happened to....The Redskins.
sandtrapjack 09-10-2007, 05:10 PM That may very well be, but I fail to see what Emmit holding out would have to do with the defense surrendering 5 TD's.
And BTW, for the record, the Redskins are the best thing to happen to the Broncos. They are loving all those draft picks that have been traded to them over the last few years!
And starting next week, Reeves will only be in on nickel packages as Newman will be playing. And the one interception the Cowboys got last night was by Reeves.
TheMalcolmConnection 09-10-2007, 05:11 PM I'm sure they are. Every year though I laugh at the Broncos because their fans must be pissed every year. It's like it's AUTOMATIC for them to make the playoffs, but you can ALWAYS count on them folding in them.
I'd be pissed, it's almost like the season doesn't matter. After that scare against the Bills I'm sure they'll pay more attention.
jsarno 09-10-2007, 05:20 PM I thought the offenses of both teams looked extremely good cause both defenses looked extremely bad. If Dallas has a D like that all season, they won't win even 7 games. It might just be a first night jitters, and a new coaching system. They have talent back there, so I'll chalk it up as a fluke for now.
ps- Does anyone know why Sinorice Moss didn't play at all last night? Also, how bad is Brandon Jacob's injury?
TheMalcolmConnection 09-10-2007, 05:21 PM Jacobs has a sprained MCL, similar to Samuels.

How long will he be out?
I was hoping it was a tear since I picked up Ward.
Skinsfan1967 09-10-2007, 05:36 PM Offense sells tickets, defense wins games. IMO these two teams did not look good, defense makes up half of a team.
