Sammy Baugh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sammy_Baugh) Baugh matriculated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matriculation) to Texas Christian University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Christian_University) after high school. At TCU, he was an All-American. His coach was the legendary Dutch Meyer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Meyer) and it was from him that Baugh first learned the passing skills and tactics that would make him a great quarterback in the pros. He finished fourth in voting for the Heisman Trophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heisman_Trophy) in 1936 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1936), when he was a consensus All-American. He led TCU to a 1936 Sugar Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Bowl) victory, 3-2 over Louisiana State (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisiana_State), and to a 16-6 win over Marquette (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquette_University) in the 1937 Cotton Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotton_Bowl_%28game%29) (the first year this bowl was played). After college, Sammy signed as a third-baseman with the St. Louis Cardinals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis_Cardinals), but he was unhappy with his prospects and turned to professional football |
