I agree, back to business. I don't really see Miami doing..........anything with the D we have seen thus far.
First string on first string, they have been dominant. It's going to be fun watching the alligator arms in Area 51

That is the very part that scares me, Williams often overthinks his defensive schemes leaving his defense out to dry. Last year the D appeared to be in need of getting back to the basics, all the blitzes are unnecessary and we don't have the right personel to call an all out blitz just because it's third down. This is why we were the worse defense (in history) on 3rd. We have a great unit this year and he (Williams) doesn't need to ruin anybodies confidence with all his complicated schemes. Let's keep it simple this year Gregg, let the players make the plays.
I have to totally disagree with you on that. Any coach can put together a basic D that plays straight up football but its the clever coaches who have better scheems which are the top tier coaches. That is what GW does and has always done so maybe you need to go back to his two privious years to see what he can do. Yes last year was a bust so that s why you have to look at more than just last year.

In sort-of related news, did anyone else catch Part 1 of the Comcast Sports interview with Gibbs this morning?
He mainly talked about Portis and why he didn't play in the preseason but made sure everyone knows he's a VERY hard worker and practiced as hard or harder than anyone, but for legit medical reasons, he should've been held out of the games, but he's about 100% now. CP will be good to go this week. :)
Why do I have the feeling Portis is a hard tackle away from missing the whole season? Am I just being paranoid or do the following things mean a lot:
We now have four RB's.
Portis talked about being traded.
Portis sat out the pre-season.
The Skins are vague about what's wrong with him.
It's been widely projected that Betts will get more carries.
Betts was also protected in pre-season to a degree we would expect a starting back to be protected.

This is a GW post...lmfao. I think you are over analyzing the situation. CP is fine and so is Betts. They will be 100% along with our D come Sunday!

I think last year the main problem was the lack of personnel especially in the back seven. That's been addressed. It's back to business as usual this year for GW.
This is HUGE! To have everyone healthy in the defensive backfield allows GW to tee it up from time to time and play the man coverages behind. I think we will see a very agressive defense this week and for many weeks to come so long as the injury bug stays the hell outta DC!

Didn't we have four running backs last year as well. Everyone seems to think Betts' great season last year means Portis is on his way out. First of all, Betts is no Portis as an overall player. And secondly, why can't we just be excited about having two very good/great running backs on our team and all the possibilites with that? Why does the success of one have to be at the expense of the other.

Portis is a threat to take it to the house on every single play. That has to have an effect on the players and coaches of the Skin's opponent when he is healthy.
Betts is a grinder and I love what he brings to this team but it is Portis who inspires fear.
What has made GWilliams a great coordinator who has stood the test of time is that he never runs a "vanilla" defense.
I don't get why all of a sudden CP is viewed as being fragile.
Not much you can do about the injuries he had last year, it certainly wasn't about him not being tough enough, they were simply bad breaks, no pun intended.

I'm happy as a pig in mud with our RB situation. Hopefully CP will be able to stay healthy and have a big comeback year for us!

it's not madden grandpa. you cant play 4-3 cover 2 the whole game ol timer....this league is all about blitzing and disguising the blitz. where was your comments in 2004 when we were bringing the house every play or in 2005 when we did that. now you are gonna kick a man when he is down? give me a break, this guy has had a great defense for 9 out of the last 10 years and you are gonna tell him how to coach now?
