It was a little bit of a joke. Obviously not very effective.
My position is this: If we only have 4 receivers worth keeping, that's all we should keep. Cooley is half wide-receiver anyway. And, we may be able to pick up a fifth once the axe falls on September 1.Of course in this case he is one of the guys who the axe fell on. That would be why he's available.
I think he's better than Bradford at least, and given some time to get comfortbable would likely become our No. 2 WR.

we said the same thing in the past few years about our current #2 & 3 (B-lloyd and Randle el)

I would love Clayton in a skins uniform. at times he could dominate

We also need to consider just how much playing time a 5th wide receiver would get. Since the Saunders Offense calls for tight ends and full backs, the game day roster will have at most 4 wideouts.
If there's any truth to this -- and that's a big if, you'd have to think that they're considering dumping either Thrash or Lloyd. I just don't see that happening. Especially when you consider the time Campbell has spent with the recievers he already has.
I still can't figure out what the advantage is of a "possession" wideout who's over 6'2". Aren't all wide receivers "possession" receivers anyway? Everyone you throw to, you'd still like to have possession of the ball.

Doug Gabriel = no thanks. Just cause he is tall does not mean he is any good. He couldn't even stay on in NE last year.

Unless some gem happens to become available, I don't see much out there that could really change our wr situation. Are the coaches in fear of more injuries or do they really want to replace somebody? Loyd is the only dude I could see getting cut of the top 4 wr's, and I think they're trying to give him a chance to redeem himself. Plus the cap impact.
If R. Williams were to be available, he'd be a great addition, but as someone posted earlier talk of his release wasn't accurate. He's a good #2 wr.

Allow myself to quote...myself. He did a nice job of getting his feet down.
Ryan Hoag is 6' 2". He held on to that ball against Pittsburgh in the 2 minute drill. He is the only reserve that has done anyhting that comes close to anything. I say we keep him as the 5th receiver. If we cut him, he could be the next Keenan McCardell.

I'd rather sign David Terrell.
