GusFrerotte 08-29-2007, 09:57 PM Most people don't think he is going to last to the midway point of the season, so he probably is right that this might be his last year as a Skin. To me it won't matter that much. There are a ton of good FA RB's available every year. You know Snyder will throw around big $$$$$$$ to get the best he can. I like CP and would hate to see him go, but I liked Terry Allen and he had to go, loved Stephen Davis and he left, so if he does go it will suck, but we always find a decent replacement. Just hope it doesn't cost us a lot of $$$$$$$$$ AND a high draft pick.
fosterchildinc 08-29-2007, 10:36 PM Clinton is being Clinton!!! Everyone knows he acts-a-fool front of the camera! While what he said is true,(our front office does not play around) I think he is happy here, he can be himself and the fans love him! this is how stuff gets blow out of proportions, next thing you know it going to be on sportscenter (if its not already!) lol!
Pocket$ $traight 08-29-2007, 11:51 PM I don't. What has Champ won with Denver? Don't get me wrong, Champ is arguably the best CB in the game, but I like the way our secondary looks this year. I doubt we could afford Taylor, Landry and Champ back there.
Wasn't Champ's deal cheaper than Portis'?
I don't know how you could prefer having an above average runningback over the best corner in football when we have been trying to replace Champ for 3 years now.
Now, shoulda coulda woulda, we don't have Champ, we have Portis. I think Portis' comments hold a lot of truth. He is being paid like one of the top backs in the league and Betts is more than capable. Portis gets called dumb a lot by fans and the media but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Washington will drop you like a bad habit when you become too expensive in their eyes. Hell, he may already be gone next year even if he puts up 2000 combined yards. I would be willing to bet a lot of money that either Washington, Griffin or Portis are let go along with Springs in the offseason, especially if we sign Cooley long term.
And don't run with my statement as a negative on Portis. Portis is a S T U D and Bett's couldn't hold his jock strap.
RMSkins 08-30-2007, 12:05 AM Did you not read the article? God seriously this is what I am exactly aiming at...
Woah! Calm down, yes I read the article. I am just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if this was Portis's last year as a Redskin, I just get the feeling he is not happy here anymore. Is that a problem?
SmootSmack 08-30-2007, 12:19 AM Wasn't Champ's deal cheaper than Portis'?
Champ: 7 years, $63 million with $18 million signing bonus
Portis: 8 years, $50.6 million with $17 million signing bonus
Having the power to lock a hyperbolic Portis thread: Priceless
(but I won't)
EARTHQUAKE2689 08-30-2007, 12:24 AM I think Portis is saying this so no one will view him as the threat that they have in the past. defenses let their guard down and boom Portis is running through them like the final 5 weeks of the 2005 season.

If he gets 2000 combined yards, especially with Betts getting snaps, he WILL be back in a Skins uni. However, if he plays 6-10 games and continues these injury woes, then I don't think he will be.
Betts works VERY well in this system. He is an excellent receiver out of the backfield, and he is a great north / south runner which is what this offense needs. His issues are the fact that he fumbles too much and need to be better at blocking, but both of those can be fixed and we could very easily get better production out of him.

I didn't feel like looking that up but thanks for doing so. Either way we made an idiotic move when we had a good runningback on the roster, extended a guy who had a deal in place and have still spent 3 years trying to replace the most rare commodity in the NFL (did I forget the 2nd rounder that was pissed away???).
You should also add Springs' deal, Smoot's deal, Rogers' deal, Wright's deal, Harris' deal and the bums that we grasped at.
Either way they should give him the ball 500 times this year and next (assuming he makes it to next year).

How does that quote make you think he isn't happy here? Why is he not happy here? Because he doesnt want to get hurt in preseason? That makes no sense.
KLHJ2 08-30-2007, 01:43 AM I do not see what everyone is getting so damn worked up about. He made a simple comment that he needed to perform this year. Every athlete should feel that way every year. Some people took this thread and his comment to the extreme and ran with it. Slow down. He has been productive ever since he has been here. Even last year he was second or third in scoring behind LT before being placed on IR. Being 26 years old, he has alot of football left in him. Even if the injury bug creeps up on him again so what! Its not like the guy is exactly injury prone. If you want to talk about injury prone look no further than Shawn Springs, who hasn't been completely healthy the past 2 seasons. Did we get rid of him? NO! We brought in some help for insurrance. Like CP, Springs carries a hefty contract and big play potential. Plus he is quite a few years older. Stop trying to throw CP to the wolves just because he made a comment about his future here if he doesn't perform. The comment did not come from coaches or any other officials. It was a comment by CP which reveals what he is thinking right now. Obviously he is worried and has a chip on his shoulder. He feels that he needs to prove himself again. That's all. Stop your flippin crying.
