I get the feeling that Portis just doesn't want to be a Redskin anymore.
Portis Says This Year Could Be Last With Skins.RMSkins 08-29-2007, 05:21 PM I get the feeling that Portis just doesn't want to be a Redskin anymore. Southpaw 08-29-2007, 05:26 PM I swear people thing that football teams are a big family business where people should be able to work happily in peace until they die or retire. It ain't that nice of a world, folks. First of all, I've already stated that I realize that the NFL is a business and everyone basically runs their organization the same way. All I'm saying is the Redskins organization is a little dirty in the way they do business. Snyder turns on the media machine and turns 90% of the fanbase against any big name player that is about to be released, or wishes to sign elsewhere. Anyone that's been around here for a while should be able to remember all of the eff(Champ, Smoot, Pierce, Arrington, Coles, etc.) threads that popped up when it was clear that one of them was leaving. And it's funny to me that a lot of the same people that defend the front office for cutting a player are the same people that bitch at a player for wanting to leave the Redskins organization and play elsewhere. As a member of the "media machine" I can tell you that this is not exclusive to the Redskins, and it's not exclusive to the team's point of view as well. The players do the same when they want out. Surely you've seen that. hooskins 08-29-2007, 05:48 PM I get the feeling that Portis just doesn't want to be a Redskin anymore. Did you not read the article? God seriously this is what I am exactly aiming at... The players do the same when they want out. Surely you've seen that. Yes. There are plenty of players that badmouth their organization, but whether the team decides they don't need the player, or the player decides he wants to play elsewhere; 99% of the time, it's the player that looks bad. Even if a player has a legitimate beef, most people still view him as a malcontent or a crybaby. backrow 08-29-2007, 06:41 PM (Champ, Smoot, Pierce, Arrington, Coles, etc.) Add Sal'vea. Seriously, CP said no more in that article than I used to say at work. It will all work out in the end. Remember, an average NFL career is four (4) years in length. CP has had that, and more, and he laid his career on the line last year during a meaningless PS game. You have to expect the unexpected. SmootSmack 08-29-2007, 07:10 PM Yes. Unless you're Patrick Ramsey, in which case you're apparently a God (that's right, I went there with a P-Ram comment) jsarno 08-29-2007, 07:34 PM So if what you say here is true, and good CB's are harder to come by, then Denver made out pretty well with trading Portis to Washington. They drafted Bell with that pick they got from Washington, and now they traded Bell to Detriot for Dre Bly. Another RB for a CB. So esstentially Denver got a second round pick that ultimitely netted them another pro-bowl CB. They got a pretty good backfield out of the deal. And, I must say, a backfield that will be there for more than 4 years. Yes, I am saying that. You don't have to look outside of our orginization to see that great CB's are extremely hard to come by, and good ones are hard to find too. RB's are often a product of their line (see Denver for the past decade). Look at Emmitt Smith, there is no way in hell he was ever as good as Payton, or Sanders, or LT, and most everyone in the top 10 in rushing, but he has the most yards ever...why? O-LINE! Denver has been very intelligent the way they have let their RB stars go! WHy not when you can always find someone to duplicate his numbers? RobH4413 08-29-2007, 08:10 PM If I'm picking a team our by position, let's say like a fantasy draft in Madden... the last position I'm going to pick is running back. Jsarno is right on when pointing out great offensive lines are what's extremely important. This doesn't mean that there aren't great running backs out there that can singlehandedly take over a game. These guys are rare, and worthy of a lot. I firmly believe CP is one of these rare gems in the NFL. He can block, he can run, catch, pass, the works. Do I feel we got shafted in the Denver deal? Not really. We got a running back that broke a franchise record... and who is capable of taking over games. I think Denver got the better end of the deal, but we by no means got "screwed over". He Hate Me 08-29-2007, 09:46 PM Do you guys really think that Champ Bailey was going to stay in Washington? He had one year left on his contract and with the revolving door at the defensive coaching position... he wasn't staying in town. Just wait.... Portis will have his biggest year as a rusher in the NFL this year. This offense is going to click! The defense will take a lot of pressure off the offense and vice versa. This team has got to come together this year.... and yes, Portis know with the money that he is making, he has got to perform. I think he is pumping himself enough. and.... I'm spent. [/B][/B] |
