What I thought was more interesting was all the talk of how key practice seems to be (not to mention how CP says "Hopefully...I don't have to play Thursday.")

I went out to see what I could do, and I basically participated in everything. There weren't any short cuts or ifs, ands or buts about it. I did what they asked me. ... Hopefully I showed them enough in practice where I don't have to play on Thursday.

The most important thing is participating in practice because that's when we're running our full offense and I don't want to fall behind."

Coach Gibbs always judges things by what he sees in practice.

The title was pulled directly off of SI.com and I tried to clarify in the first post that this wasn't that big of a deal. I could have used "Portis says this could be his last year with the skins if he doesn't perform as well as he is expected to due to injury or simple physical degradation" but I wasn't sure it would fit...

I guess I am not directing at you in particular, it is just frustrating everyone is taking normal quotes that anyone would say and blowing them out of proportion. No matter what Portis likes to do or doesn't whenever he is asked to do it he gives 100%. That is why he got injuried in preseason last year, he went all out to make a tackle. I am sick of people who question Portis because he speaks his mind and those same people get frustrated when other players give cliche answers to question. Portis is an honest player who gives it his all on the field, and that is all that matters.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the wording was to generate web hits, which it certainly has, both here and on SI.com.

I guess what hooskins is trying to get at is that when posting links of articles, try to lean less for the shock value and more for what the article is saying when choosing a title. This particular thread doesn't necessarily do it, but so many on the website are guilty of doing this.

If SI.com saw Portis sitting down outside the stadium before a game the title would read:

"Portis sits out week 1"

No worries. I was just concerned with that exact issue when I posted the thread.

So what's the difference between Portis and Iverson when it comes to practice?

He's probably just bored from sitting around in the Preseason and wanted to watch the media and people like you run around in a frenzy. He's done it before...many times. :D

Question: If I am not mistaken Portis is entering his 4th year in Washington, if he did leave, what are the cap implications? If his knees are still bothering him it will be a struggle to attempt a trade.

Additionally the front office surrendered a 2nd round pick in 2004 for him, in addition to Champ Bailey. And if he does leave what type or return does Washington get back from his four years?

Now my point is simply that a second round pick in 2004 would now most likely be a starter in the lineup. Granted Portis was only 22 when he was traded and no one could see this knee issue coming then, but the position he plays dictates that he is gonna take hits and his body will wear down a bit faster. So why surrender a pro-bowl corner and a 2nd round draft pick if you only end up getting 4 years of production?

Arguabley Champ is at the top of his game (10 INT's in 2007), and looks to be a secondary force for Denver for years to come.

If the money and the trade does not justify an investment return for just 4 years, then there is another issue all together.

I really just don't get it...?

"Hopefully...I don't have to play Thursday."

The last time I checked he is employed and being paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PLAY FOOTBALL for the Washington Redskins.

I don't think they wanted him to play the entire game just a few reps...?
So I guess I didn't catch the breaking news that portis is the new owner, vice president, head coach, asst. head coach, etc.

Just shut the hell up, suit up and do what your BEING PAID A FORTUNE to do like every other employee is doing, playing ball, NOT CRYING about being to good to play a few reps in pre-season!

Simple as that!

I think this comment is closer to what he actually feels than most of the things he says, and I'd have to say that I agree. That's the way the front office does business in Washington. As soon as a player shows the slightest hint of having lost a step, he's expendable. Face of the team or not.

Exactly, he's not saying "I dont want to be here after the season"...he's saying "If I dont produce, they're going to get rid of me"....

Which is probaboly correct.
