Portis is only pointing out the reality of being an NFL player. I don't understand why people are misrepresenting his statement. He simply said "If I don't do my job I'll probably be out of here." Truer words have never been spoken.

Seriously. I don't understand why everyone thinks Champ would still be a Redskin if the trade never happened.

Technically the Skins could have put the franchise tag on Champ hence the trade.

Champ was not going to be here no matter what.

I think this comment is closer to what he actually feels than most of the things he says, and I'd have to say that I agree. That's the way the front office does business in Washington. As soon as a player shows the slightest hint of having lost a step, he's expendable. Face of the team or not.

The title was pulled directly off of SI.com and I tried to clarify in the first post that this wasn't that big of a deal. I could have used "Portis says this could be his last year with the skins if he doesn't perform as well as he is expected to due to injury or simple physical degradation" but I wasn't sure it would fit...
